Miss Walters, a senior at BYU, is a Murray native, having attended Longview elementary when Mr. Jex was principal there. Mr. Jex is now the principal at McMillan. Miss Walters is largely as an artist, but received help and encouragement from her grandmother and fellow artist, Ramona Walters of Provo. She took her first art classes in high school and sold her first painting when she was a senior at Heritage high in Denver. Many of her paintings she now sells at BYU student art sales as well as doing self-taug- who 'remembered the old scene'. Sparkie Dibble, PTA president, presented the paintings to the school at a teacher appreciation luncheon. Two water color landscapes were donated by Kay Soffe, a McMillan parent who is a gifted amateur artist. Her major at the Y, rather than one of the arts, is a double major in special education and elementary education. She feels she can incorporate her hobbies of art and dance into her chosen profession. There just isnt enough art in the schools, she notes. In her teaching assistantships, she has taught disco routines to second graders with great success, as well as teaching art to sixth grade students. This summer, Miss Walters is teaching fundamental drawing through the Murray Community Recreation Department to eight to fifteen year olds as well as working on a commissioned painting and several smaller pieces.
