It looked like the Bulldogs. who finished fourth in their last appearance at state, were destined for better things. But, the Spartans had other ideas. Rusty Bentley opened the inning with a walk. Dillon Alvey then replaced him on the basepaths. Bulldog pitcher John McGarry thenhit Tyler Nevenner with a pitch. McGarry then got Nate Robinson ona fly ball and Alvey movedto third. Mike Brady was safe when Provo’s Bryce Barnes, normally one of the Bulldogs’ steadiest players, dropped his fly ball. That makeit 8-6, Casey Davies slapped a single to makeit 8-7 Then, Jesse Bullock, batting ninth in the lineup, slapped a double over Provo leftfielder Ken Hardy's head.
