Show relic of old edinburgh old wooden water pipes have jur been unearthed in edinburgh opposite the mcewan hall they seem to be ot of elm bored through the center and with the ends tapered so as to fit alt tightly into the aperture each section is about eight feet in length and over a foot in diameter specimens of this old water piping which dates probably from the seventeenth century are already in several ot of the city museums so 80 that the two sections now found will be removed to the water trust yard this old pipe track trach was waa proba bly part of that which conveyed water from the borough loch to supply the society of brewers the name society being still attached to a few houses bouses at the west end of chambers street and bristo the name of windmill street a small street on the east side of george street recalls recall the tact fact that a windmill in those bygone days was used tor for pumping the water from the borough loch lach to the brewers of bristo |
