Sub for Santa Director Knows Christmas Need By DAWN TRACY Herald Staff Writer Nobody is more enthusiastic about the Sub for Santa program than Marcelino Archuleta because he knowswhatjoyit can bring a young kid whose family has hit on hard times at Christmas. Archuleta knows because he was once a boy whose only Christmas was the one Sub for Santa had provided. “{ had 15 brothers and sisters,” says Archuleta, who is now director of the Sub for Santa program in, Orem. “I remember Sub for Santa providing us with food, clothes and gifts for four Christmases in a row.” Archuleta has since becomea successful businessman. Currently he is managerof Pykettes in Orem — but he has never forgotten Sub for Santa. cafes and shops througnoutthecity, courtesy of Doyle Jensen of CocaCola. “T sponsored a family at Christmas are given Christmas presents — in- by myself for a couple of years, but then I got an idea that if we could have an Orem Subfor Santa program, more families could be helped,’ he says. Last year, Archuleta and his committee made it possible for nine Orem families to have Christmasdinner with all the trimmingsandclothes andgifts. This week, Orem businessmen are asking that people contribute to the city’s Sub for Santa program. TheDivision of Family Services sponsors the program andprovides namesof needy families. Orem shoppers will seeSub for Santa money banks on counters of banks, items such as clothes, toys, furniture and gifts are asked to bring the contributions to the Orem Chamber of Commerceat the City Center and to Technical College will help wrap gifts, so those wishingto contribute are asked to do so early.
