One of the principal sand-forming regionsis the beach of a sea. There the action of the tide upon the rocks, the action of wind-blown sand rubbing against the rocks, and the dissolving of the minerals in the rocks by the salt water all combine to make sand. That's where the sand on the beach comes from. But this sand doesn't always remain there. The loose sand along the beaches is picked up by the wind and carried inland. Sometimes, so much sand is moved in this way that a whole forest may be covered by sand dunes. Whatabout the sand often found in deserts? Most of the loose sand there has been brought by wind.
