SUSC Debators Win Prize CEDAR CITY — Four debaters from Utah County were among those responsible for Southern Utah State College's win in the Air Force Invitational held at the Air Force Academy in Colorado They are Tracy Ashman of Provo, a graduate of Timpview High School; Kayron Madson of Payson; Kelaine Crookston and Chris Kerecman, both graduates of Provo High School. The squad spokesman. Chris, said, “The tournament at the Air Force Academy is, without question, the hardest tournament we'll compete in all season. We worked hardforthefirst place win and received a Standing ovation from the other tournament participants.”” Chris collected the most points for SUSC as a semi-finalist in exterPporaneous speaking Tracy and her partner, Craig LeDuc of Bingham, worked their way to the semi-finals in CEDAcompetition, losing to the University of Northern Colorado. LeDuc finished with the highest number of speakerpoints. Kayron and her partner, Appel Tuxhorn of Bingham, were finalists in expository speaking, and Kelaine and her partner, Cary Thorupof Bingham competed in the oratory semi-finals. SUSC's T-Birds competed against students from 43 otherinstitutions including the University of Georgia, Souterhn Missouri State. Texas Tech, Loyola, and Baylor universities. Secondplace honors in the tournament went to the University of Wyoming. Lewis and Clark College took third place. Several points toward the SUSC victory were contributed by debaters Denise Brooks and Scott Pullan, Bingham, who took second place honors in the junior division.
