NewsItems From Around Utah State Davis Officials Try to Evade Law Wrong Greeting Upsets Employees FARMINGTON, UTAH (UPI) — The SALT LAKE CITY (UPI) — State Auditor Richard Jensen suffered some embarrassment when his agency sent letters to a numberof state workers which wereaddressed to ‘‘Dear former employee.” Apparently, the workers thought they had been fired. Jensen said a computer wasused to send letters to former state employees seeking suggestions on ways to improve Utah’s administration of government.Butthe electronic deviceinadvertently sent some letters to Utah Legislature this year tried to slam lid on tax hikes by passing a tax limitation law — but Davis County commissioners say they plan to slip through a crack in that lid and raise property taxes about two mills. The tax limit law would permit the county to raise its property levy about one mill. Butit allows extra-large tax boosts in times of “fiscal emergenClesi The commissioners said Monday they have such an emergency. County employees, they said, need sizeable pay hikes. Commissioners said the county has been “‘too conservative’’ with property tax levies in the past. ‘‘We've held the mill levy so cockeyed low wecan't live on it,” said Commission Chairman Glen W.
