Show tragedy overtakes TRIP party of utah lawmakers while on junket representative seth taft of wayne county and cl nt le gh of the herald killed in railway ac aident at bingham utah salt lake city As the result of an accident on the copper belt line ot the boston consolidated mine at bag bmg ham canyon representative taft ot wayne county and clinton leigh legislative reporter for the herald were killed friday afternoon while the members ot the legislature were on a junket to utah s great copper camp the party was returning from a tour of inspection of the boston con when the accident occurred the ac aident was caused by the breaking ot a coupling chain which released twi cars loaded with ore coming down grade from the afine and allowed them to crash into the train on which the two men who met their tragic deaths were seated the train was backing down grado and both men were seated on the rear fiat car of the train which carried the legislative party and were facing the engine the ore cars that broke loose from the thain higher up the grade came down the hill and collided with the train so that both men were knocked off leigh tell beneath jhb wheels of the car and was killed al most instantly while representative taft was thrown beneath the car in such a manner that the locomotive crushed both of his legs he was conscious for about two hours but he was injured so seriously aa to leave no hope for recovery and expired at about 7 30 friday evening the legislative excursion that met such a tragic end was hurriedly planned thursday afternoon by beeaker hairy joseph who invited the members of the house to visit the silver shield mine in which he is heavily interested his invitation was seconded by louis gates of the boston consolidated property at bingham which Is con trolled by samuel newhouse seth tatt from wayne county in the legislature was born in 1860 in the ninth ward of salt lake he was a son of bishop seth tatt in 1882 he went to wayna county and engaged in the ranching business settling near thurber he was elected to tire legislature last tall and was one of the eight democrats in the lower house he is survived bi a wife and eight children mr leigh was 41 ears of age a native of len nesbee and had been in salt lake city for the past five years he leaves a wife and two children |
