Benion of Humboldt Calif, State Universityin the first lecture of the 1977-78 series sponsored by the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University. The entire series this year will center on the theme “Mormon Country, Its Character and Traditions.” Dr. Bennion will present some findings in his Tesearch for the Atlas of Mormonism. Illustrated with overhead transparencies, the presentation will outline the configuration of the Mormon population during the first decades of settlement in the Great Basin Hehaspresented a number of papers on subjects relating to the geography of Mormon country including ‘“‘Mapping Mormons Across the Modern West,’’ presented in the Symposium on the Mormon Role in the Settlement of the American West. Previously on the faculty of Indiana University, he is currently professor of geography at Humboldt State University.
