Certain strains will leave a reservoir, some will inhabit deep water, some will inhabit the shoreline and some are just too smart to be easily caught. Hopefully, a strain can be chosen which will return to the creel at a greater rate, thus shortening the time and the Utah Cooperative Fishery Research Unit, at Utah State University headed up by Mark Hudy, research assistant. Prior to stocking, each fish was tagged with a small piece of coded wire injected into the snout of the anesthetized fish. The coded wire identifies each strain of rainbow trout and the fishs length and weight when tagged. between bites.
