Morrell And Larry Miller Head To Pro Football Camps ; (Guy m Albiuiti BOUNTIFUL Two local athletes will be giving it their all over the next two or three months in an effort to become the first professional football players from their respective high schools. The war still rages on about the difference in fast and slow pitch softball throughout the state. Some say that fastpitch is a pitchers game while slowpitch is for the . '&4 , hitters. h - r f;; ' HAVING PLAYED both I take a neutral stand on the subject but there are some things that are interesting in comparing the two. Slowpitch softball is played two ways. In the Metro league in Salt Lake City which is supposed to be the best teams, it is simply home run derby. The teams that hit the most out of the park win the game. Plain and simple. - i- - . ON SATURDAY afternoon the team I was playing with met up with the Brighton Builders, one of the better teams in the Metro league. They won with their long ball hitting about ten home runs. The fence at the Complex is 285 feet down the lines and 270 in center. I was in the outfield and know for a fact that had the fence been about ten feet further back we could have caught at least seven of those home runs. The Metro teams all hit home runs with consistency at the Complex. Yet consider this fact, over the last ten years a Salt Lake City team has always gone back to the nationals and during that time they have won a grand total of one game. r r T thats at a much higher altitude than those back East f outs. Then in 1968 he moved to Salt Lake Valley and again picked up with a local team and continued to play. Actually he didnt play the first year in the area in order to build up his insurance business, but once he was established he was back behind the plate. ALL THIS moving has helped Ken see another side to the teams in Salt Lake City. Moving into this area and trying to get on a team is hard.
