Yiiinrao , , '' BOUNTIFUL - Its tour- nament time again for the Bountiful recreational soft-ba- ll teams according to John Miller, recreation director for the city program. Viewmont scored enough runs in the third. With two out Chris Roybal and Matt Lalli drew walks followed by singles from Benard, Lynn Muir and Eric Madsen. ByDAVEWIGHAM SALT LAKE CITY - Going into the state American Legion baseball tournament the Viewmont Post 79 Club knew they had some exceptional pitchers. They were more concerned with the hitters. the Post 79 team came up against a stubborn Granite club. The locals lead only jumped out to a to see them give up five runs to the Granite club and enabled them to tie the score Then in the seventh, Lynn Muir started out with a single, went to second on a wild pitch and eventually scored the winning run on a single by Matt Lalli. Granite started a miid raily in the .seventh but Lalli gunned down a base runner trying to steal second. Buzz Neilsen and Steve Hilton were the hitting heroes with a pair of doubles. Muir started on the mound with Benard finishing when Lynn had control problems. THAT PUT the locals against Murray, a favorite, on Thursday. Viewmont came up with six runs in the fourth inning to come away with a 6 victory. Russ Cannon and Steve Hilton pulled the mound duty for the winners with Neilsen and Brian Skidmore each collecting a double during a right hit attack. On Friday the dream of winning the hard way came to an end when Brighton handed the Vikings a 1 loss. Again it was the lack of hitting as the Vikes only managed two hits off the left handed thrower. Errors also hurt their cause. This is one game they would like to forget. Benard started on the mound with Downs THE CITY has sponsored four leagues throughout the summer and now the top two teams from each league will battle each other in a single elimination tournament for the bragging rights to the ... city. Individual trophies will be given to the top two teams in each of the leagues and then team trophies will be given to the top two finishers in the tournament. d WEDNESDAY 5-- AS ONE player put it, We know we have great pitching. All we need to do is get the bats going and we can win this title. On Monday, the Post 79 team took on a strong Cottonwood team, one that was supposed to be hitters with no pitching. Well the teams pretournament fears showed up as the local club could milv manage one run off the Colts while they gave up two via the long ball. ON THE very first pitch of the game Steve Hilton gave up a home run. He then settled down and pitched a great six hitter at the potent Colt lineup. The only other Tun was a solo homer in the fifth. Viewmont couldnt get to the Colt pitcher as they only managed three hits with their only run coming in the first inning when Matt Lalli home Buzz Neilsen. singled " Coming through the losers bracket in this tournament is murder, yet the locals knew they had the pitching to pull it off. E: TUESDAY THEN the Vikings beat Provo 1 with Kelly Downs on the mound. Kelly threw a three hitter while striking out nine hitters. All hits by the Provo club were singles coming in the first, third and seventh. Kelly held his cause with two hits while Blaine Benard came up with three including a double.
