He is satisfied with the routine of his life until he unexpectedly becomes romantically attracted to a young . I came from a middle-clas- s family in Kansas City, Asner said. I wanted to get away from that, but I didnt ' want to take much riSk. Act- ing was a safe adventure for1 me. Before I became really successful, like many actors, I worked at a variety of jobs. I think this has given me a normal man character that has helped me play roles such as this. Asner first pursued acting at the University of Chicago. After two years in the Army, he joined the Playwrights Club, in Chicago. He made his Broadway debut in Face of a Hero. After playing a number of roles at the American and New York Shakespeare Festivals, and in stock, he moved to California in 1961 to launch a busy television and film career. I would like to occasionally return to the stage, Asner said. didnt miss it much while I was doing The Mary Tyler Moore Show. It was a iI audience. Looking back to that show, Asner added, I really love it. Its funny how much more I can enjoy watching it now when I can sit back without that close, immediate involve- ment. a A i CROSSWORD SB Ed Asner three-came- show, with the ra thrill of having a live Asner is still surprised by power of television. When I first started on The Tyler Moore Show, I I sometimes visit local television stations on promotional tours. At first, station personnel would come over and whisper in my ear, Thats our Ted Baxter. After the show had become an established hit, the anchormen themselves would come over and introduce themselves as our Ted Baxter. Now I have the same kind of response when I visit newspaper offices for Lou Grant. Asner is a family man. In fact, he brought his family with him to Toronto, where most of the interiors for The Family Man were filmed. After the shooting, the Asners drove off to Niagara Falls for a sightseeing visit The public is best served by a broadcast press that is free both good to report news without fear of and bad FC intervention. Baking two potatoes in the electric range oven will take about an hour and use 1 kilowatt hour (kwh) of electricity. (The average residential rate per kwh is approximately 5C . ) Baking those potatoes in a toaster oven will use only half that much. Toaster ovens are also convenient for baking cookies and small cakes, heating TV dinners and rolls, or for toasting sandwiches. Some models can also broil steaks, chops and hamburgers. Unless youre going to bake several loaves of bread or cook a complete oven dinner, it will probably pay you to use a toaster oven whenever possible. Youll save electricity . . . andmoney!
