Fact is these two powers never had much fondness between them. THIS YEAR though there is a lot at stake when these two square off at Layton this Thursday. It so happens the Lancers are fighting to get into the state picture and trail the Falcons by a game. On the other hand the Clearfield bunch are only one game behind league leading Bonneville and would love to catch them. Truth is the Falcons want to finish at least in second place due to the fact they would automatically go into the quarterfinals as opposed to a playoff if they are third. Layton could possibly take second with two wins in a row but right now the Lancers want to make sure they are at least in the top four. LAYTON HAS always come up with a win over their rivals in recent years but many fans up north have the feeling this year the Falcons have a better squad than Layton. Indeed if the records are any indication then Clearfield does have a legitimate shot at beating Layton. With down-to-eart- h talk about insurance and low rates to match Allstate Youre in good hands. Allstate Insurance Companies, Northbrook. IL Lance Brightshue, Steve Keith Wilson each getting a BOTH COACHES, Brent Gentry, Brian Murray and Girls Soccer Club Organized In what is probably the first ever for the state of Utah, Davis High and Woods Cross Jay Crowther ' UP FRONT the battle would seem to be lopsided with the size of the Lancers against the smaller Clearfield bunch. Indeed people like James Suitt, LAYTON OFFERS a balanced running game with Alan High formed a girls soccer Phone Another big gun in the Clearfield offensive show is Shane Openshaw u ho is one of the finest allround players in the state. This guy does it all both sides of the line from either wide receiver or defensive back. Cook is also a standout on defense which gives Clearfield some speed in the secondary. Rench and the rest of them are much bigger than the Falcons but folks like Mark Carter, Ed Plantaric and Eric Naylor can not be taken lightly. The two quarterbacks for the clubs are unheralded but both coaches are pleased with their play thus far. There are some top named quarterbacks in this region and both these guys are in the background but both are very good signal callers. Biggest test for the Lancer defensive unit will be containing the speedy Fred Cook, who actually started his sophomore year at the Layton school but' then transferred to Clearfield. Mr. Cook offers a lot of problems since he has speed and power when running and has shown a great ability to catch the football. Jay Crowther makes it easier. chance at carrying the ball. All three have had good games but as of late Wilson had over 100 yards against Hillcrest. club. Woods Cross is coached by Kevin Rigby who also doubles for the boys team. The Davis club is coached by Dean Skinner, Bob Lundgreen and Dan Kooyman. DAVIS AND Woods Cross are interested in playing other high school teams from Davis and Weber county. Anyone interested, students or parents, in forming a girls soccer club at their high school, can contact Mr. Skinner at for 376-46- Hancock of Clearfield and Gary Hansen of Layton, have been around awhile in high school ball and will come up with a new wrinkle for this contest. They both realize the importance of winning this game. Coach Hancock wants the title or at least second place with the automatic berth. Coach Hansen would love the championship but is looking for a state invitation. Both Menus For County Schools The following are menus for all elementary schools in Davis County.
