Show i VEEKLY I REFLEX-DA- VIS NEWS JOURNAL, NORTH DAVIS LEADER, f f I OCTOBER 1, 1981 n By KEITH DUNCAN Clearfield, winless in their first five games of '8 , are hungrier than ever for that first victory. But in order to get it, they must get past the high flying and presently unbeaten, Sky View Bobcats. 1 batTHE tle is slated for Thursday night, BOBCAT-Falco- n not Friday as most would assume. The game was moved to Thursday evening long before the season began and will be the only high school football game in the state played that evening. Can the Falcons beat the Bobcats? This writer thinks they can for more good reasons than not. SO FAR the Sky View squad has been exceptional, organized and ready to play. But it might be about time for a let down, and if they come to town thinking theyve got an easy one, they may go home with their first defeat and it might begin to destroy what was shaping up to be a pretty impressive season. The Falcons gained the respect of the entire Bonneville team last week, even though After the they lost game, assistant coach Dan 34-1- Slaugh approached the Clearfield coach and let him know, with sincerity, that Clearfield had been the hardest hitting team they had faced all year long. we could stop some of their running." said Lewis of Weber whose team suffered a 28-- setback to Sky View last Friday. Lewis was amazed in the third quarter how the Bobcats kept the ball on the ground and ran off eight minutes of the clock. "Their big backs just 7 kept coming at us, said Lewis. THE BOBCATS have gone with Corey Lindley at quarter- LEWIS SAYS the Bobcats back and he too was a surprise to Weber. "From the very beginning I felt our pass defense was the strongest part of the team. But this Londley kid kills us," said Lewis. don't commit too many errors, which he feels has a lot to do with their success. "They are a very basic and sound football team who wait for you to make the mistakes They are consistent," he said. The Warriors were double teaming Dwight Hansen most of the way and left Darin Stephens open who caught three touchdown passes for the day. "The passes they did throw were right on the money," said Lewis. "Some of them couldn't have been any more perfect." CLEARFIELD cannot afford to get down early. Frustrations heaped upon frustrations will only make the pain worse. If Robert Sherwood can get the offense moving early, then Clearfield might stand a great chance of pulling this one off. Neither Region One Coach Hall Lewis or Gary Hansen, have been terribly impressed with the Bobcats. AT ONE point Lindley had straight completions for the Bobcats and was beating the Weber comers bad. They are solid, but I believe Clearfield can get them." said Lewis. 1 1 i GARY HANSEN, who coaches at nearby Layton THE THING that surprised me the most about Sky View was their ability to keep the ball on the ground so long. 1 went into the game feeling like High, was less impressed with Sky View than Lewis was. "They are very organized but they aren't as good as Roy and Bonneville. I've seen every team play now and I still stand by my prediction that Roy will win this league," said Hansen. Lakers Claim 34-1- 7 THE WORD has pretty well worked its way through parts now that the Bobcats had a heyday in running and the score up against Layton. Those who witnessed the game resented the ideals displayed by the coaching staff at Sky View. It could very well come back to haunt the Bobcats someday. Victory Over Falcons By KEITH DUNCAN Though the win column still shows up with a glaring 0 in it, Clearfields "once optimistic" 1981 edition of prep football almost did the trick and nearly knocked off the defending state champion, Bonneville Lakers.
