SAC., Ml) In an infant or young growing child an infection of the urine may be a first sign of some serious underlying dis- ease or may be just one of those things. To distinguish between the two lakes on a major importance if one is to help the child reach his full potential as an adult. THE FIRST step along this way is to diagnose the infection. This may, at times, be hard to do. and becomes the responsibility of both the parents and the physician. I he parents role is to be aware, as much as possible, of the various signs and symptoms of urine infections. The physicians role is to recognize these same signs and symptons, plus, also to suspect, the possibility of urinary tract disease in its sometimes silent forms and to do the appropriate tests. Let's step back a minute and talk about where the urine comes from. The urine is formed in the kidneys. We have two kidneys. The kidneys perform multiple important functions. We can live with one half of one kidney, but toal loss of kidney function leads to death. SOME OF the functions of the kidneys are to regulate the balance of water und minerals in our bodies; filter the blood to cleanse our bodies of poiso- nous and metablolic waste materials, and to aid in regulatThrough the process of cleansing the ing blood pressure. blood, and regulating the bodies water and minerals, urine is made as a product to be eliminated. As the urine is made, it flows into and down two long slender tubes called the ureters, one coming from each kidney. These tubes enter into the bladder at an angle, one from each side. The constant now of urine from the above ureters gradually fills the bladder. As the bladder fills and the wall of the bladder becomes stretched, we sense the need to empty our bladder and through various nerves and muscle connections the urine is squeezed out in a nice easy stream. LSI' ALLY, I'RINE is free from bacteria. During a urine infection, however, there is a large number of germs that invade the urinary system and grow rampant. If the spread of germs involve the kidneys, then the infection may be serious and cause direct damage to the kidneys with loss of kid 19" 0 Off Selected Womens Blouses - Sweaters Off All Corning Ware Cookware .,4 tract infections and the treatment. PREECE DI)S Why do fillings sometimes full out? ITS IMPORTANT to know just what functions a filling does and doesnt serve in a tooth. It docs seal olT and protect the hole formed by tooth decay and the drilling required to remove it. But the filling doeyi't in itself make the tooth any stronger. In fact, the strength of the filling depends on the amount of tooth material left surrounding it after the decay is removed. Usually, the larger the filling, the weaker it is. If your fillings fall out fre- quently, it could be that they are simply too large to be held securely by the remaining tooth structure. In this case,' crowns (caps) should be made. Crowns serve the same purpose as fillings, but they fit overcjmknfurround the tooth, rather than fitting within it. SAVE ON TOYS Special Buy Womens Western Boots ney function. Sometimes the infection is more downstream in the bladder and out. These infections tend to be less serious. but may become serious if not recognized or treated.
