Hermansen of 201 Darlington Way, Layton, and Mrs. Bertha Hermansen of West Valley City, has been called to the Canada-Calgar- y Alberta Mission. To Be Honored On 90th Birthday HE WAS honored with a farewell on Sunday morning at the Layton 28th Ward. The ceremony was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Nov. 27, 1910. The couple made their home in Roy. Mr. Duncan died Nov. 2, 1946. SHE MARRIED Christopher H. Brown on Nov. 17, where she made her home until 1980. Mr. Brown died Sept. 18, 1957. f While residing in Roy, Mrs. Brown was employed at the Varney Canning Company for many years, ana also at the old offices in his priesthood .1 quorum in the Church. Elder Hermansen is a graduate of Layton High School and LDS Seminary and has been M in Roy, the Weber County school lunch program and also at the V I' ... Naval Supply Depot during World War II. Mrs. Mabel Nelson was bom and raised in Manti. She married a Sanpete County native and the couple made their home in Manti and Elsinore until 1950 when they moved to Salt Lake City. Its surprising what you can come up with if you combine several recipes into one, Mrs. Nelson said. ' wm' i J MABELS SUGAR COOKIE 2 cups sugar 1 . cup sweet milk 2 eggs 1 cup lard (butter or ine can be used but will change the texture of the cookies) 4 tsp. cream of tartar 2 tsp. soda 'A tsp. salt lki Tbsp. vanilla 8 cups flour ' CREAM LARD, sugar and mix in the other ingredients. Roll out and bake at 408 degrees for 15 minutes. Dip the top of each cookie in sugar before baking. Hints: If you chill the dough before cutting the cookies out the dough can be a little more sticky. You won't have to add Fraternity Holds Meeting 1 1 TO MAKE a raisin-fille- d cookie, boil some raisins in water and thicken the mixture with cornstarch. Cut out two cookies and put the raisin mixture between the two cookies and pinch the edges together. Bake as you would a regular sugar cookie. OATMEAL COOKIES 1 cup sugar scant cup of lard cream together and add egg 3A 1 BOIL ONE-hapackage of raisins for 15 minutes. Add to the above mixture. Do not pour water off. Add 2 cups flour to which has been added i'j' fspSoda,' TYsp.'dihrfamon. Last,' add two cups oatmeal. Drop by spoonsful and bake in moderate oven for 20 minutes. Dip the spoon into water before each drop. lf When Mrs. Nelson moved to Layton, less than a year ago, to live with her children she became acquainted with some neighbors who invited her to attend the Layton Senior Citizens activities.' Last week Mrs. Nelson and her neighbor, Mrs. Mable Layton, were in charge of the menu for the weekly luncheon.
