ORLEANS NEW I know computers inside and DISK SYNDROME ml out... Disk problems in dogs usually come on rather 'suddenly, usually without the owner being aware of any injury. The usual complaint is that the dog is unable to use his back legs, or is very weak or ataxic in the rear end. The dogs arc usually unable or unwilling to climb stairs or jump up on objects. They arc often very tense and may whine or cry as in pain. As dogs become older, the ftbro-elastmaterial that com-risc- s the disk in the back becomes calcified and can no longer function as a cushion between the vertebrae of the back. Then if the animal moves just right, the calcified disk may herniate or slip and put pressure on the spinal cord. This causes pain, weakness, and in some eases, complete paralysis. Certain breeds, such as the dachshund and poodle seem to be more susccptablc. but any breed could hav e problems. Your veterinarian will usuallv prescribe medication and rest for your dog. or he may advise surgery in selected cases. If you have questions, ask vour veterinarian, as vour pets health depends on it. like Block 4 nows , S taxes. : Im trained to know computers, not taxes. So I go to H&.R Block for tax preparation.
