Show Mngr-Entrprl- , Skyline Sno-Rid- by Pal Mellor Last weekends television stories news the upcoming SKYLINE SNORIDE scheduled for February 19 have prompted numerous inquiries from snowmobilers regarding the event, says Bill Mickelson, ry-Treasurer of the Skyline Snowmobile Association. The SNORIDE, which promoters are hoping will become an annual event, is a snowmobile drive from Ephraim to Manti across the Skyline Drive on groomed trails. The event includes trail guides, maps, survival packets, a breakfast, lunch on the trail, and a western-styl- e barbequed turkey dinner and a dance in the evening. Manti Chamber of Commerce President Joel Pratt says the organizers hope to have 200 participants. Beginning in Ephraim Canyon, the drive will traverse the mountaintops of the Skyline Drive's high open bowls and National valleys in the Manti-LaSForest, ending with a final descent in featuring n Secreta- 40-mi- day-lon- g 40-mi- cross-countr- y 1983 Pag 5 offers top winter entertainment e Manti Canyon. Ephraim Canyon, Manti Canyon and the Skyline trails will be groomed, and the trail is already marked with fluorescent banners across its length in anticipation of the event. The Skyline received national recognition as a winter sportsmans paradise when Dick Wheeler of Springville, Utah, led a snowmobile caravan of magazine and press writers on a snowmobile ride last February. The trip was intended to show off the snowmobiling facilities and recreation available across the whole state, but the highlight of the trip was the stretch of Skyline that is open this year for all participants. (This marks the first time the Manti Canyon area has been groomed for snowmobile travel.) Lynn Hafen, editor of Snowmobile West, posed for photos in his magazine in which he perched on a snowmobile reading a copy of the Manti Messenger's front page story of the tour. The Manti Chamber of Commerce and the Skyline Snowmobile Association, who organized the event in cooperation with Panoramaland, say they hope the annual event will attract more participants in future years, but for this year, they are hoping for 200 participants. The sponsors and other organizations such as the Sanpete County Search and Rescue Patrol have arranged food, trail guides, emergency services, and marked trails for participants, Mr. Mickelson said. "The only thing we cant guarantee is the weather, but were doing the best we can, even to providing emergency supplies and rescue stations along the .trail, as well as regular patrols of the area to keep things going smoothly."
