Obituaries Paul Wayne Sorenson Feb. 23, 1917 to June 30, 1983 Paul Wayne Sorenson, 66, died at his home in Flagstaff, AZon June 30 of cancer. ! I f e-- u i "V I v Born Feb. 23, 1917 in Ephraim, Utah to Elmer F. and Marguerite Sorenson. Married Norene Arnold June 18, 1946 in Las Vegas, Nev. and marriage was later eternalized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, June 1948. He graduated from Snow College; B.S. degree from BYU in 1941 and in later did graduate work mathematics and meteorology at Penn State, University of Tennessee and Northern Arizona University. Starting in 1942 he worked for 39 years for the U.S. Weather Bureau. He retired in 1979 and since then worked for NBC TV station in Flagstaff broadcasting news and weather forecasts. In 1970 he was awarded the Dept, of Commerce Bronze Award for outstanding service over a long period of time. He authored a book in 1974 entitled Climate of Flagstaff, Arizona. ... ) Josl Shaw and Glade L. He served five years on Coconino and Zoning County Planning Commission and was elected and served eight years on Flagstaff School Board of Trustees. Bow n. son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bown of Manti. Glade and Josie w ill be married on Friday, July 8 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, A reception will be held , Paul W. Sorensen Arizona, LDS bishop of a university ward. High Priest group leader and member of Stake High Council in Flagstaff. Mr. Sorenson is survived by his wife, three sons, Robert and Eric of Flagstaff and Paul J. of Holbrook Also and four grandchildren. surviving: his mother, Marguerite H. Sorenson of Salt Lake City; a brother, Morris, Salt Lake City, and a sister, Lola S. Peterson of Provo. Funeral services were held in the Stake Center in Flagstaff, Arizona on July 5. Graveside services and burial will be held in the Ephraim City Cemetery at 11 a. in. on July 7. The family asks that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. LDS h Josie graduated from Manti High in 1982 and is presently employed at Sperry Univac. Glade is also a 1982 graduate of Manti High. School Alesa Poulsen Kelly and Charlene Poulsen of Manti announce the arrival of their second daughter, Alesa Poulsen. She was born June 21, 1983 in Payson and weighed 7 lbs. 7 oz. Honoring Pearl Garbe Anderson on her 80th birthday. July 4, 1983, were many relatives, neighbors and close friends. Her daughter LaRce Deverl Herzog and and children were instigators of the surprise celebration. Pearl will undergo hip surgery at son-in-la- University Hospital in Salt Lake City on July 7th. She will remain at her daughter's home (3142 So. 3075 East S.L.C., Ut 84109) for a time. On August 2nd Pearls daughter-in-la- w Barbara Anderson and children plan to come from Slidell, Louisiana for a visit. Brandon Gibb Holmes It's a first child, a boy for Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Holmes (Ruth Aycock) of Orem. The baby was born Monday, June 6. 1983 at the Salt Lake LDS Hospital. He weighed 5 lbs. 13 oz. on arrival and will be named Brandon Gibb. Happy grandparents are Max and Sonia Aycock, Ephraim, and Mrs. Monette &Yv Holmes. Orem. C. Ray Peterson. July 3 for the naming of the new grandchild, w ho was blessed by his father in the Orem 21st Ward. Jennifer Marie Hansen Jennifer Marie Hansen, the first child of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Randy Hansen (Colette Peterson), was given her name and a blessing by her father in the Ephraim Third Ward of the LDS Church on July 3, 1983. All of her living grandparents, aunts and uncles, and other relatives were in attendance. Jennifer was born May 28, 1983, weighing in at 7 lbs. 1 oz. She is the first grandchild for Kay and JoAnn Peterson of Manti and the third grandchild for Tom and Ann Hansen of Ephraim. The Utah Farm Bureau Federation r hold its annual Dixie on conference the leadership 1983, College campus July featuring an address by American Farm Bureau President Robert B. Delano, recently named by U.S. News & World Report as the most influential leader in the U.S. agricutlure industry. Utah Farm Bureau President Frank O. Nishiguchi said the conference will be attended by farm leaders from throughout the state who will participate in training sessions and help surface issues of concern to agriculture in the local, state and national levels. Utah Farm Bureau, which now claims nearly 19,000 members, has been named the nation's number one Farm Bureau by the American Farm Bureau Federation, based on the activities the organization carried out for farmers and ranchers last year, Nishiguchi said. The young couple will make their home in Manti. Doug is the son of Mrs. Gladys Dennison and the late Lynn Spencer Dennison. The wedding will take place July 9, 1983. A reception will be held at the Lindcrhof Reception Center in p.m. Sterling that evening from 7-- 9 Christine is a student at Manti High School and plans to complete her senior year next year. She has been a cheerleader for two years. Doug has been a student at Manti High School. The day was first set apart as a Scandinavian honor time to ancestors who came and settled these valleys. Each year activities have related to the customs and traditions of our Danish, Swedish and Norwegian forefathers with programs, puppet plays, dancing, stories and other entertainment helping the community and others e the fun experiences relative to the past. Arts and crafts with a Scandinavian accent and foods of many kinds with that special flavor have tempted the appetite.
