Robison, State Director for the Bureau of Land Management in Utah, this week announced a call for public nominations for member ship on the five District advisory councils in the State. The Districts are: Salt Lake, Richfield, Vernal, Cedar City, and Moab. The announcement asks that members of the public forward to BLM District Managers by July 31 their suggestions for persons to fill three positions in specific categories of interest for each council. The categories will differ for each council. Terms are for three years, beginning January 1, 1985. Current council members may be re nominated for additional terms, but not to exceed six total years. Wildland fires kill wildlife, destroy other natural resources and property, and endanger people who visit wild lands. Anyone using fireworks in or near wildlands must exercise caution to prevent dangerous and destructive wildland fires. Ignitable fuels are abundant and weather conditions are conducive to wildland fires. Because of the extreme potential for wildland fires during the upcoming holiday, State Forester Ralph A. Miles urges Utahns to be careful with fireworks and other forms of fire when visiting the states wildland areas. Miles said approximately 30 wUdland fires were caused by fireworks last summer. Fireworks were the suspected cause of over 30 additional wildland fires. These fires caused $10,000 in damage to natural resources and property. It cost the people of Utah $12,000 to put out these fires. The State Forester said that all of these fires could have been prevented.
