Sparks celebrated his 88th birthday March 27, 1987. He has always been a great lover of animals, especially horses and has had one or more horses nearly all of his life. This year his family arranged for him to have the use of a horse for a week and he had a birthday ride that day. The horse is named El Sir Rock and belongs to Stacey Cox of Manti Walter is her Her dad, Larry Cox, brought the horse to Ephraim from Manti for the week and Walt enjoyed three horseback rides. t1 jj I Sharon Nelson, granddaughter, who was at her mother, Beverly Mortensens home helping care for her, fixed a nice birthday dinner for her grandfather. Sharons husband Don Ray Nelson and little son drove to Ephraim from Genola, to spend the day. Friday, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell (Carol) Anderson, Walters daughter, came to Ephraim and made ZACHARY TYSON NELSON HI, my name la Zachary Tyson Nelson. I just had my very first birthday on March 27th. 1 got a birthday cake and Ice cream, but I had to share It with my brother Matthew, who Is 6 and my sister Shasta Lee who Is three and my mom and dad, Mark and Julie Nelson, Ephraim. She is also a graduate of Snow College with an Associate of Science degree in 1986. Shauna is presently attending Utah State majoring in Early Childhood Education. Troy is a graduate of Manti High School in 1982. He served an LDS mission at the England Bristol Mission in 1984-8Troy is also a Snow of graduate College with an Associate of Science degree. He is currently attending Utah State University where he plans to graduate in Family and Human Development. The couple plan to make their home in Logan until they finish their education. An open house honoring former Manti resident Elbert Allen Beal will be held Saturday, April 11. Friends and family may greet him at the Manti American Legion Hall between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. Elbert was born in Emery, Utah April 20, 1909 in Ira Allen Beal and Irene Jensen. mechanic, electrician and has had a special talent for repairing things. He married Alice Peterson in November 1930 in the Manti LDS Temple. They lived in Manti until 1951 when they moved to Ftn. Green ERICA DAWN ORTIZ Sunday, March 29, was the first birthday of Erica Dawn Ortiz. She was the celebrity of a fine party at her home in Manti. Her mother Is Sandra Ortiz. Snow IKs will sponsor Temple wedding date set for Jennifer Jeffs, Don Bennion Jennifer Jeffs and Don Bennion will be married Thursday, April 16, 1987 in the Manti LDS Temple. The bride is the daughter of Ret. Lt. Col. and Mrs. Roger Jeffs of Logan. The bridegroom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Steven D. Bennion of Ephraim. Jennifer is a graduate of Snow College where she served as a student body officer. She is currently attending Brigham Young University. Don is also a graduate of Snow. They both will continue their education at the University of Utah this summer and will make their home in Salt Lake City. A reception will be held in their honor April 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bennion residence, 130 North 460 East in Ephraim. All friends are invited to attend. Daughters of Ephraim luncheon scheduled The annual "Daughters of Ephraim" luncheon will be held on May 2, 1987 at the Red Flame Restaurant at 1342 So. 500 West, Bountiful, Utah. The meeting will begin at 11 a.m. for visiting, with lunch to follow at 12 I noon. A program will be presented. Reservations should be made before April 30. WalkAmerica BY MARK SODERBORG The Intervollegiate Knights (IKs) of Snow College have been named chairmen for the annual March of Dimes WalkAmerica to be held in the Manti and Ephraim area on Saturday, April 25. The KIs is a service club at Snow that has traditionally particir to help pated in the eliminate birth defects. Students and other members of the community are invited to pick up sponsor sheets from their local schools or from Ethel Thomsons desk in the Noyes Building at Snow College, and participate in WalkAmerica. The walk will begin at 8 a.m. at the Ephraim Middle School and end at the Manti High School. Brad Jex, Pagemaster of the IKs, is coordinating the event and is anxious that this be the best year ever to help such a worthy cause. The March of Dimes is a organization whose purpose is to research and find cures for the 3,000 birth defects that harm more than 250,000 babies in the United States each year. John Jensen will Elbert Beal serve in Connecticut Miss Manti mission area John Henry Jensen, son of Kay and Phyllis Jensen of Sterling has accepted a call to the Hartford Connecticut LDS Mission. John is a graduate of Christian Heritage and also Manti LDS seminary (four years). He has been working and attending college in Oklahoma. John is also an Eagle Scout. He plans on going into electronics when he returns from his mission. He will speak at sacrament meeting in the Sterling Ward. He goes into the MTC on May 6. applicants needed now Plans are now underway in preparation of crow ning a new Miss Manti 1987. John Henry Jensen All Sandy Thatcher will serve in Puerto Rico Sandy Thatcher, daughter of Elda and the late George A. Thatcher, previously of Ephraim and now of Provo, has been called to serve a Juan mission in the Puerto Rico-Sa- n Mission. She enters the Missionary Training Center May 6, 1987. A meeting scheduled for Sunday, April 12 in the Provo 11th Ward at 610 West 300 South, will give Sandy an opportunity to speak concerning her call to serve for 18 months. The meeting starts at 2:45 p.m. School and Snow College and has been enrolled currently at Brigham Young University majoring in secondary education. applications must be received by May 1st. Various workshops and rehearsals will then commence in preparation for the pageant. The pageant is set to be held Saturday, June 13 at the Manti High School auditorium.
