Just as the children of Israel of old were in bondage, so are we. You might ask yourself why I say that. The hard economic times that Sanpete County is facing have many people wondering how to pay their bills. Food and clothing are some of the necessities of our lives, and yet many go without. Our homes are our refuge. They are places to take care of our needs, to enjoy, and to welcome children to our families in. And yet, how many people have lost their homes or are losing them? The upkeep of a home is expensive, but wages are very low. We struggle to pay the electricity bills, and we pay them as quickly as we can, but faithfully every month we notice. get a shut-of- f But that is not the only burden we carry. We moved to a place where the sewer is not yet hooked up. We were told if we wouldnt pay the connecting fee soon that the city would turn off our water even though we pay $13.50 every month for not using it. The city fathers know of the struggles of this town and yet they go even further. We call all of Manti an improvement district for the purpose of constructing curbs, gutters, and blacktop. Who pays for this? Usl Ask yourself who puts that kind of burden on the people! For many years the prophets have told us to get out of debt and to stay out. We would like to. But is it possible? Are we overburdened with taxes and fees? Are we as the children of Israel? They were delivered from bondage through Moses. But who will deliver us? Do we need someone like Moses or can we do it ourselves through the voice of the people? Lets join together and let our voices be heard and make this a place where we truly find peacel Sincerely, Monika Orton FROM THE DESK OF BY THOMAS REEVE obtain a good representative sample of alfalfa or other forage. The pageant is staged under the stars on a rocky foothill seven miles northwest of Castle Dale, overlooking the land originally termed Castle Valley, now Emery County. The natural amphitheater gives the audience a panoramic view of the castles of the San Rafael Swell, the Bookcliffs, Henry Mountains and the valley towns the pioneers settled. But when the "Voyager" pulled into the Bullfrog Marina for fuel, the engine of a boat close by, at the wharf for gas, was suddenly engulfed in flames. Two men leaped from the boat and raced across the wharf. An emergency boat, equipped with fire fighting equipment, hooked up to the flaming vessel and towed it out into the lake. Two explosions followed; black smoke rose into the sky, and people on the wharf watched as a $15,000 boat burned to the waterline. Faulty wiring was blamed. Thirteen of us were on the 'Voyager'," Mrs. Fox says.
