Ephraim: Roger Stewart; Manti: Ralph Larsen; Gunnison: Redge QuartermasterRe-porter- officers. Utah State Commander Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Anderson and Sheriff and Mrs. Wallace Buchanan attended the ball. A fine dinner and dance were enjoyed. New officers include: Tyler Bolli blocks out two Hawk players as he gets in position for a rebound. Templars struggled to gain the upper hand the whole game, but the Hawks were always just a little out of reach, ending Mantis hopes of a state berth. Sector Leaders: Mt Pleasant: Veterans invited to meeting A meeting of the Veterans Assisting Saints Abroad Association (VASSA) will be held on March 11th at 7 p.m. in the Manti City Building (audito- rium). VASSA is a organization comprised of veterans who served in Korea, Viet Nam, South East Asia, as well as those who believe in humanitarian goals. It was started by LDS veterans of the Viet Nam War, in 1985. non-prof- it Dr. Virgil Kovalenko, president of VASSA will speak, as well as Mel Madsen, executive admin- istrator. VASSAs main projects are: (1) to locate veterans and (2) to assist refugees who have been displaced by political upheavals in their own countries. BY BRUCE JENNINGS Manti High Schools basketball season ended in a three-poin- t loss to North Sanpete Monday night in the climactic game of the season. It was the playoff game to determine whether the Templars or the Hawks would represent Region 10 as its fourth place team in the State tourna2-- ment at Southern Utah State College this weekend. As has happened several times this season, the Templars fell behind in the early going and were forced to play catch-uball With five minutes gone in the first quarter, the Hawks were p ahead 8-- 0. Tyler Bolli scored on a two-point- to get Manti on the board, got another basket, Mark Wathen tallied, and Russ Mick-elsor hit for a and then for a two, to cut North at the Sanpetes lead to buzzer. The Templars got within one, at 8 midway through the second quarter, but then fell behind again. In a sensational third quarter rally, with seven players getting into the scoring column, the Templars scored 25 points while holding the Spartans to 14 to trail by only seven points. But Emery stifled the Manti rally in the fourth for the win.
