The Bureau of Land Management will hold a public meeting on September 28, 1989 to gather Unhappy about meeting the Editor: Move on, we dont want you here! Thats what many people heard at the Republican mass meeting. One woman said that she had to move to another seat because of the dirty looks and the remarks of a woman sitting nearby, (These newcomers are going to ruin everything weve worked for.) When the name of Wayne Beach was placed in nomination, the meeting was deliberately disrupted by two people trying to discredit him by claiming he was a Democrat when they knew better. And Ive been told that these two people are Democrats! The group that backed Wayne Beach, Alan Braithwaite, and Lee Thurston had agreed that we would keep a Christlike atti- tude and not make negative remarks - nor have plants in the audience. So we didnt mention the slander and lies that are being spread by the -- opposition. One woman stated that they had, beat Ruth Anderson and her friends again. Well, I have news for the few men and their wives who have controlled this town. We arent just Ruth Anderson and friends. We are a growing group of newcomers", and good, sincere people who are filled with righteous indignation at the way we are being treated by a few people old-timer- s, using unrighteous dominion and secret combinations. My husband and I have been labeled Birchers because we have removed our children from schoolWe have nothing against the Birch Society, but we have never attended a Birch meeting. Our son has a learning difficulty, and I just spent over two years qualifying to teach him. Enthusiasm and cautious anticipation are probably the best words to describe the feelings of most of the 1989 fall quarter students at Snow College. The 1st and 3rd year students are confidently experienced with previous understanding of just how to best conquer their educational challenges. The 1st year students are enthusiastic, but most seem to be cautious, not certain of just what is expected of them by their colleagues in general and their roommates and professors in particular. Even though there are thoughts of uncertainty in the minds of some new students, yet there surely is the general feeling that Happy Days Are Here Again! No matter what most students may say about not being overly excited about their studies and the great amount of work required, yet they do admit deep inside that the main reason for coming to college is to earn the further light and knowledge promised them if they would be willing to put forth the effort. Leadership training The annual preschool training for the LDSSA Council was held this year at Fish Lake. It was a special three days of planning and other activities that have formed a bond that this new council has surely appreciated. Mr. and Mrs. Scott Callis-te- r hosted these leaders in the training. The training at Fish Lake also included special instructions from the Snow College stake presidency and bishops. Addi- - tend the classes, also. Over the last several years many people have felt inspired to move to Manti. Some have been hurt and have left, wondering why the Lord would have sent them here. Some have been ridiculed, but have stayed. They know that the Lord is in charge, and that He wants them to stay for reasons, as yet, unknown to them. And there are more coming, as has been prophesied. We didnt come to ruin this town. We came to find a peaceful environment in which to raise our families and to retire. We came to associate with brothers and sisters in the Gospel and to do temple work. We came to contribute and to help make a beautiful community even more beautiful. But we must be able to provide for our families. We dont want a prison, but were going into get one! Clean high-tecdustry will probably never come here, now. Instead, we are going to be taxed beyond endurance. Those who dont want us here want Manti to be a bedroom community for prison workers. We cant afford that, nor should we be dependent on the prison as our main employer. The people who have come here have a variety of expertise. We arent dummies who need to be told what to do. We have engineers, accountants, controllers, teachers, project supervisors, builders, counselors, etc. We are willing and able to use our education and talents to help this town become even more h beautiful. Its a shame that some people in this city of the Mormon Miracle Pageant say to us, Move on, we dont want you here! Virginia F. Beach 105 W 6th South Manti, UT 84642 tional training was given the elders quorum and Relief Society presidencies of the Snow College Stake at the Institute Thursday and Friday. On Saturday they joined their colleagues at the 1:30 p.m. football encounter with the team from Arizona Western College from Yuma, Arizona. They were happy with the Badgers handed rival Wranglers from Ephraim-base- their win their 40-1- 7 d Yuma. Annual Snow College Stake sacrament meeting Again, the facilities at the Ephraim LDS Institute of Religion building were tested to seat the 500 plus students wanting to attend the first sacrament meeting of the new school year. It was not a stake conference officially, even though it would appear such to any who might be visiting. Those attending were instructed, both in a general and specific nature, opportunities they will experience in being members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daSaints at Snow College. Of course those attending the meeting who were not LDS were told that they are most welcome to participate in the church meetings and activities with their LDS friends. y Approval given for expanded parking lot The Ryan property sputh of the present parking lot at the Institute has been purchased recently to allow needed additional parking spaces and a oneway arrangement of traffic in and out of the Institute parking lot. This will now make it possible to conform with the safety code encouraged by Ephraim City and seen necessary by the Church. It also gives space necessary for future expansion, which may be needed soon, according to Ephraim Institute Director and Snow College Stake President, Michael W. Bawden.
