Show Messenger-Enterpris- Anniversaries e, Thursday, February 22, 1990 Page 3 Ephraim Middle School students place second Six Ephraim Middle School sixth graders competed in the Academic National Competition recently. In round 1, the Ephraim Middle School team placed second in the state. This ranking won the school All-St- ar $200.00 in curriculum-base- d soft ware. Hie students involved are Jay Baker, Kevin Callister, Jeremy Cox, David Eklund, Stacey Hintze and Angela White. The students are under the direction of Kristy Stevens. DeVon and Mauriece Mikkelsen DeVon and Mauriece Mikkelsen Over 25,000 students from across the nation participated, representing over 1,600 schools. The competition is computer-base- d with questions covering mathematics, science, social studies and language arts curriculum. The teams are given points for their correct answers according to how quickly they respond. The top five schools in each state from Round 1 qualified for Round 2 to compete for a national finalist position. The top four scoring teams from Round 2 will advance to the national finals to be held in Lexington, Kentucky May 12. MHS music department plans concert The Manti High School music department is joining with the music department of Granite High School for a joint con- cert at the Manti High auditorium on Wed., February 28 at 8 p.m. Performing from Manti High the Concert Band under the direction of Robert Beal, the Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Roseann Higham and the Chamber Choir, directed by Bill Thompson. Granite High School music groups are under the direction will be of Jim Thompson and Vicki Bel nap. The Granite to celebrate golden anniversary DeVon and Mauriece Mikkelsen of Fountain Green, Utah, will celebrate their 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary Feb. 26, 1990 when they will be honored with a family dinner in Riverton, Utah, by their children. They were married in NephL The marriage was later eternalized in the Manti LDS Temple. They have spent their life in Utah Power Announces Fountain Green where they were in the dairy business. They have been active in the LDS Church. They have three children: Eddie Mikkelsen, Barbara Hacking, Salt Lake and David Mikkelsen, Richmond. They have 12 grandchildren and an adopted daughter, JoAnn Syme. Eagle Scouts Brayden Glen Olsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee R. Olsen, of Korea, and grandson of Erma Olsen of Manti, received his Eagle Scout award on Feb. 7, 1990 in Seoul, Korea. His father is a Communications Management Specialist at Plans and Programming Division, Yongsan Main Post, Seoul, Korea. Brayden began scouting in 1985 in Troop 81, Taegu, Korea, advancing to the rank of Star Scout before moving into Troop 88 in February of 1988. Brayden served as assistant Senior Pa- - J-- 6 trol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader in Troop 81. He has served as instructor and is currently serving as Assistant Senior Patrol Leader for Troop 88. He completed his Eagle Scout service project in August of 1989, and completed his Eagle Scout Board q Review on November 20, 1989. He has also earned his On My Honor" award from the LDS Church. On average, residential customers served by Utah Power will pay about $80 less per year than they did only two years ago.
