For the Manti hardballers, the Templar vs. Grand game on Friday had a very different endloss to the Red Devils ing; a 9-- 12 a 4-- 6 record. Heavy hitters for the Red Devils did the damage with six home runs and two doubles. They were ahead 124 at the end of the sixth inning. The Templars got a two-ru- n rally going in their half of the sixth inning and five more in the seventh to make the score respectable, but not enough to win the match. Bryan Keisel was the starting pitcher, and Brandon Olson hurled the middle innings with Shane F onville striking out three to shut down the Red Devils in the final inning. It was the last home game for Manta. The Templars will finish their season at Grantsville and Juab this week and then move on to Gunnison next week to finish out the regular seasoa The Templars have qualified for the regional playoffs with their current record. & .it At the end of the fifth inning the Lady Templars had a 10-- 7 lead and appreared to be in control, buttheLadyHawksregained the lead in the top of the sixth inning and held it through to the C. f finish. The team from Moab, trail- ing by four runs at the end ofthe sixth inning, scored seven runs inthetopofthe seventh inning to go ahead. The Lady Templars then rallied to score four times. The Snow College Jazz Band brought home some good grades from the 31st Annual Reno Invi- tational Jazz Festival The 3. 8-- 3-- James Armstrong, Scott Dyreng, and Kris Jorgensen emerged as doubles and singles champions, respectively, at the BYUWilson Tennis Invitational held last Friday and Saturday at BYU. Larry hall, tournament director, presented Jorgensen with the singles trophy, and the Armstrong-Dyren- g team the doubles award. "Its really positive to meet some of the folks who compose pieces of music that we perform. We got to mingle with some of the finest jazz players in the world right now." The band made a wide loop as they traveled to the festival so they could perform atEmeiy High School and Taylorsville High School along the way. Once in Reno, the band received Supe- - Gunnison, rior ratings on their performance. There were music educators and professional jazz musicians from all over the Western U.S,. Tt was good for us because we dont get exposed to good bigband jazz too often in Ephraim." Larsen added, We were able to hear what level of perfection is possible and it shows us where we have room to grow. It also gave us some confidence and we found out we are doing some really good things. The competitions were held in the categories of Jazz Choirs, Vocal Solos, Combos and the one in which Snow competed, Big Band. Fresh from their trip to the festival the band just put on their spring concert in Ephraim.
