Show Messenger-Enterpris- Manti Beautification Awards Given BY BENTON PETERSON It is not completely done, but is improvement ever done? However, enough was completed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Stephenson, 324 East 300 North in Manti, to receive the June award for the most improved property in Manti. The Manti City Beautification Committee presented the award to the Stephensons on July 6. The Stephensons took a weed-fille- d lot, placed a home on it, along with a garage, storage room and workshop. Not to mention, of course, the flowers, lawn. porches and It was an effort that took some time butis making Manti amore beautiful place in which to five. soon-to-co- Another effort was rewarded July 6 also when the Fred and Joan Johnson family received the Best Upkept award. Here is a yard that is maintained by a wife who enjoys yard work and it is a pleasing sight to the eye. The front yard is complete with an oasis island of a tree, flowers (blooming even) and a replica of a pump. They have a lawn that rivals a golf course and a garden in the back yard with ar- - row-straig- ht rows. Mr. Bishop for Congratulations to both families for being award winners this month. This judge must admit that it is becoming ever more difficult to choose winners because of the efforts of the residents of Manti. This makes the job more challenging to judge but the reward of it all is in the eye of the beholders of the beauty. The Beautification Committee is growing. Susan Corcoran has accepted the invitation to be a part of the committee. Already she has helped the committee raise about $100 toward their matching funds for urban forestry grants. Susan was also instrumental in helping the committee sell ice cream during the pageant to raise more money for trees for Manti. The city is negotiating for the purchase of the rest of the spruce trees from Eldon Bishop. Bishop donated 75 of the trees on the property of his landlord, Robert Barton. Barton has allowed the trees to be grown on his land and has allowed them to be donated to the city. The Beautification Committee wishes to thank Mr. Barton and 'Left-handedne- their contribu- tions. The committee plans to transplant them in the fall. If any group of individuals would like to help in the transplant as a part of the service project or because they just wish to help make Manti prettier, they shouldcontactcommittee president Don Cofer.
