A W t jf i f i ' 1 i5 T I Poland, Warsaw Mission V 1 personally apologic and lake full responsibility for my letter in the Manti Messenger of last week as I have since realized I may have been too hasty in I forming certain opinions and had a somewhat view of the situation. one-side- d here was too little time to ponder what had written because of various deadlines. The letter was not intended to he an attack on the turkey industry or on the I character of any person, and I certainly had no malicious intent. It was intended as a protest to new turkey farms close to town and as a means of alerting people to the Agriculture Protection Area (APA) situation so they could object to the 1 granting of an APA by January 1, if they so desired. I have since realized that certain concerns stated in the letter may not be as I had supposed them to be, notwithstanding the fact that serious to others as many people are very concerned about the effects must admit I have no personal knowledge of turkey dust on health. 1 hethcr or not the turkey industry is conscientiously maintaining safe and clean premises; however. I do know the e surface for the turkeys or the use industry is not now requiring a hard, dust-fre- of sprinklers to keep down the dusts in outdoor pens, as turkey growers in some other states are required to provide. Couldn't this controversial issue be cleared up once and for all by an independent study? As long as this issue is unresolved, I feel granting an APA to a turkey farm close to town is not fair to the residents. am also concerned about the possibility of more and more turkey coops being built close to town, for fear of a significant increase of unpleasant smells. I We wish to thank all of our family, friends and neighbors in the Manti area for your love and support when our father Eugene Carpenter passed away. Your love and friendship are greatly appreciated. While to this date I have had no cause to complain about turkey smells, which Ive noticed only occasionally, I believe there would be some point at increase of turkey coops surrounding town could indeed cause a real which an problem. sincerely would hope to be protected from such a thing. And, unless I don't understand the implications of the APA, it seems to me there would be no reI course for a serious odor problem for a full twenty years. Again, please forgive my earlier rashness. Since it was interpreted by some as an attack on the turkey industry, sorely regret not making myself clearer 1 and not stating things in a kindlier way. It is my hope that reason and fairness will prevail in this matter, and that people can forgive and forget any offense I unintentionally gave. Sincerely, Ted and Betty Carpenter and family , I Sherron Andreascn i |
