In my lifetime I have seen many lost rights, some examples are: We can no longer make a citizens arrest, help build our churches, have Easter eggs, have barn razings, rebuild our own porches, drive without insurance and proper restraints, doctor our children, keep animals in the city, hook up a sewer line, rent one side of a duplex without having the whole completed and landscaped (and then to only four students), and on and on. To protect us, the government creates and enforces licensed monopolies that extort disproportionate amounts of money for their services. To pay for one's benefits, taxes have gone up at all levels of government. The people just don't understand, is the usual justification for the policy of in the common sense of the common man. Could your past bear the scrutiny of a special investigation? in I wondered about that the other day, and decided that just case Bill Clinton nominated me for a secretary post (highly unnominated that likely I'll admit, but there have been some I make a clean d better weren't nearly as well qualified as I), it out anyfind breast of everything, because the FBI w ould way. So here are my confessions of all the bad things I ve done in and aside from is my life. I want it known that this list complete the things I'm about to mention. I've never done anything wrong! First, I want to confess that I once accepted an interest-fre- e loan. Anyone w ho has ever tried to borrow money from a bank will not believe this story', but its true. I went to the executive vice of a bank (friend of mine) and said, I need president $15,000. Sign here, he said. I did and walked out of the bank with a and at no interest. I paid it back in $15,000 check in my hand and didnt offer the man any kind of a bribe. So if 30 days that disqualifies me for a federal appointment, so be it. I'm not sure whether or not Beth has accepted an interest-fre- e loan, but I do know that her dad was pretty generous to me when 1 was starting out. Another confession: 1 once received special consideration in connection with a promotion in the military. As a 1st Lt. I was a National Guard company, a position which called for a captain. Although I did not have the time in grade, nor had I ever commanded a company, the upstairs brass pulled some strings and made me a captain in three days. Now I can never be Attorney General (but at least I was a Captain). W hen they investigate me, they'll probably go way back, so might as well confess that I was once reprimanded in the military. When was shipped overseas during World War II, I wrote and told my wife where I was. That was strictly against regulations, and I knew it. But I did it anyw ay. Well, the censor picked up on it and 1 was called before my commanding officer who read me off but good! So my official record shows a reprimand. Surely I couldnt be an Attorney General with an offense like that hanging over my reputation. Going even further back, there's a moral problem. It seems that w hen I w as in the fifth grade, a bunch of boys (me included) grabbed the ugliest girl in the class, Helen, pulled her into the commander of 1 1 For those who thought couldnt make banking with Zions any more convenient, we just did. little bathroom in the back of the room, and kissed her all of us. She didn't object all that hard. Talk about a reprimand. The principal gave each of us corporal punishment w ith a limber ruler, and almost expelled us. He also told my dad, who gave me another whipping when I got home. Believe me, thats the last girl I ever kissed in the bathroom. The principal did make us go to the girl's home and apologize. We went as a body, knocked on the door, and each, in turn, said, I'm sorry I kissed Helen.'' So now that's off my mind. You know, this confessing is good for the soul. I feel better already. And if I dont ever make Attorney General, at least 1 know that my conscience is clear. There may have been a couple of other transgressions, but surely stealing apples front Thornton's orchard won't count. I doubt even the Lord will hold me responsible for that one after all, all kids steal apples. Also, Id better confess that I spoke crossly to Beth one time. Everj body (except Pres. Hinckley) does that once in a while. Perhaps it can be justified because once Beth spoke crossly to me also. Surely that wont make me ineligible to hold a high government position. Fact is, it should help. Those guys probably think being nice to your wife is a liability rather than an asset. Then there was the time when but I dont think I'll tell that The one. FBI couldn't you surely dig that one up, so ... why confess? So here am, w ith a clear conscience and a pure soul. Come on, Bill, let's hear from you.
