Show - Messenger-Enterpris- e Page 4 2 Manti High athletes compete contest finals in national Track team sets records By Greg Dettinger The new track appears to payoff as Manti draws its largest turnout ever for the Templar track team. The seniors. Shelly Otten, Will Alder and Regan Bolli, Denise VanOrman and Heather Cook are supplying the leadership and experience with this young up and coming team of almost 110 athletes. Freshmen Cody Braithwaite and Jamie Luster have each broken Manti male and female records in the two mile respectively. The relay teams have also been quite successful as well. Shelly Otten has verbally committed to SUU for a scholarship in track which would be the first Manti student ever offered a scholarship for track in a Division I university', said head coach Jack Rapier in an interview. Freshman Cody Braithwaite broke a 1 5 year old record along with Jamie Luster who shattered the female two mile record as well, further stated coach Rapier. Several athletes participated in the BYU In itational this past Friday and many will move on to the state finals to be held on Friday, May 6th and Saturday, May 17th also at BYU by competing at the Region Championship to be held at Millard this Saturday, May 10th. Friday, May 2nd at BYU Invitational in Provo Cody Braithwaite took 2nd and set a new mark in the 3200 Meter run at 10:05.74. Jamie Luster set a new school record in the girls 600m run, posting a 4:5 and qualifies for the state meet. She followed that up with a 2:37 time in the 800 meter 1 run The Girls 4 x 400 relay team set a new standard as they posted a time of 4:30.24.
