Show Page 8 Messenger-Enterpris- Thursday, July 31, 1997 e Snow College ESL students perform service project The English as a Second guage reading class at Snow LanCol- lege participated in a service learning project during the summer quarter. They helped Ephraim Librarian Joan Taylor with the sum- mer reading program at the Ephraim Public Library. Students who participated included Ryoko Fushimi, Kazuyoshi Hotta, Akihisa Kuwata, Meejeong Lee, Noriko Maeda, Akiko Miyazaki, Hiroyuki Morita, Yugi Nakayama, Akemi Ohtsuki, Kim. Aki Takahashi, and Emi Torii. Ms. Lee and Mr. Kim are from Korea, and the other students are all from Japan. The students read books to the children and shared facts, food and crafts from their own countries with the children who were part Kyung-So- o dents enjoyed their experience meeting and working with the children in the reading program. Sanpete Sheriff Booking Report Rebecca Catherine Allen The following persons were booked at the Sanpete County Sheriffs Office recently: July 21: David L. Shepherd, 44, Mt. Pleasant was arrested in Manti and charged with aggravated assault, warrant Sanpete County Justice Court. Bail, $5050. July 24: Kenna L. Sharp, 36, Fairview, Utah, was arrested on SR by Sanpete County Sheriff and charged with DUI, interference w ith arrest, and terroristic threats. Bail, $2,600. She is a 1997 graduate of Manti High School where she was involved as junior class officer and repre- sented Manti as 1997 Sterling Scholar in dance. Rebecca (Kate) has represented the community as Ephraim City Youth Council mayor. Miss Ephraim and one of Rebecca Allen the reigning Miss Sanpete Roy- alty. She is enjoying her summer working at Zion Ponderosa and will attend Snow College in the fall, majoring in geophysics. Cody Braithwaite returns from BYU camp Cody Braithwaite recently re- turned from attending a BYU Cross Country Camp, which was held July 14-1- 8. Eighty people from all over the U.S. attended this camp, which featured several long river runs and mountain runs. Cody enjoved the run that went up the ten-mi- le south valley by the "Y and around the back side of the mountain to return on the north valley. Cody received the tough as nails award. The camp included training in nutrition, values, st) le and personal training techniques. The next day Cody traveled to , Flagstaff, Arizona to the Northern Arizona Track Camp, which was held July 20-2It was a good experience for Cody to run at 7000 feet altitude. Cody won first place in the two-mi- le race and the one-mirace. He also received first place for over-al- l points. 4. le His next scheduled race is August 16. When school starts he plans to join Manti Highs cross country team and continue running.
