To the Editor: I thought it was great news when I heard Wal-Ma- rt might be. coming. Prices here are currently so high that I cannot afford to shop locally. Once each month my family travels to Provo to Maceys and t. I can buy most of the groceries I need at Maceys and most everything else I need at treat my family to a day on the town, then pay for the gas I used on the trip and spend less than if I had shopped in Sanpete County. Where is my loyalty to the local merchants? Where is their loyalty to me? If local merchants could get over the idea that they must make everything on that one sell they might realize they could do better by making a little bit on each sale, but selling in volume. Low prices allow you to do that. Just look at They were not always a huge chain store. Their first store was smaller than the Ben Franklin now in Ephraim. In fact, some businesses will actually benefit. Restaurants will see more business because local citizens will be traveling to Provo less. Now instead of eating at a restaurant in Provo, Ill be eating at one here. Convenience stores will benefit for the same reasons. Grocery stores should see more business too. Wal-Ma- Lance Christensen Manti, Utah sends wrong message Clinton that this President doesnt To the Editor: neces- sarily care about the bond he has with the American people. What then does he care about? If we ignore this and business carries on as usual, then we send a message to our young people that these character virtues are not important enough to address. That it is acceptable for a leader of a nation which was founded upon the principles of godliness, to deceive the very people he serves. It would send the message of how our legal system makes exceptions and does not function on equality. It would send a message that this country has no moral integrity. May we consider the ramifications of President Clintons choices and remind our young people of the accountability that is associated with choices. Please write to your Congressmen and Senators and make your voice heard. The names and addresses are on page 13 in the front of the phone book. It will be an example of how important this country and its principles are to you. May this letter serve to appeal to the public regarding the recent address to the nation by our President of the United States. This matter is not about leaving private lives alone and simply tending to the duties of the nation. This matter is about integrity. How can we excuse lying, deceiving and cheating? Back in January of this year, we all watched President Clinton shake his finger and emphatically proclaim he ha4 never had a relationship with Monica Lewinsky. How do the American people feel now about a President who is also an actor? It wasnt so bad when it was the other way around. . . an actor who became a President, as in the case of Ronald Reagan. Our President chose to act (not for entertainment) but in order to save himself. Arent the leaders of the nation supposed to be acting in the best interest of the citizens? Was it in our best interest to pay $40 million to have the matter investigated? The fact that an investigation ensued and it took A concerned citizen pressure from that investigation to L.J. Lets not forget about the conI Sanpete Countys history, I really dont see the threat There is nothrt ing inherently evil about is a Its store that very good at what it does. That is what this country was founded on, and that is what has made this country great To say Wal-Ma- rt is evil is to say competition is evil. Many countries believe this to be true. The former USSR, Hitlers Germany, and China are but three. Now about history. My view is without change there would be no history. Imagine if we had not advanced beyond the technology of the day, the Manti Temple was built.
