Show TEMPLAR TRUMPET, MARCH 25, 1999 PAGE 4 Baseball looks to have a steal of a season By: Brad Barton Hey, all you lovers of America's original big time money sport, it is time yet again for another season of great Manti Templar baseball. This team figures to contend for State in the 2A ranks due to a strong nucleus that features great pitching and fielding, and can also bring in the runs that makes them higher scoring than half of the NFL teams. Now we w ill have a roster call for all of the gifted athletes that call themselves baseball players: The Seniors are: Kenny Cox, Cameron Hermansen, Nolan Crouch, Jared Buchanan, Jesse Strickland, and Kevin Brown. The Juniors are: Scott Barclay, Joe Nielson, McKay Anderson, Sam Bailey, Steve Jones, and Derek Jensen. The Sophomores are: Jacob Dettinger, Cody Cox, Jason Fowles, Kent Dave Jorgensen, Robert Brandt, Hatch, and Shane Stevens. Now we get to the most important part of our beloved baseball team, the remarkable, outstanding. Freshmen. The marvelous Freshmen are: Brett Cheney, Mark Olson, Jason McCaul, Mitch Oliver, Mark Johnson, Josh Dettinger, Scott Adam Christensen, Newman, and Andy Cragun. Because of the great talent on this baseball team, it would not be a stretch to say that they can and most definitely will contend for a state championship,just as they did last year. Whenever you have an opportunity to attend a baseball game, I strongly recommend that you do so, because you will see a starladen team that has the potential to have another banner hung in the gym in their honor. Softball seeks another State Title in dynasty of 90s By: Brad Barton With a young nucleus and proven veterans, the Manti Lady Templars softball team seeks yet another state title which would give them 4 in this decade. The reason for such strong optimism? You would have to look no further than the pitcher known as two-head- ed Kim Dalene and Annie Schlueter. Without further ado, I will introduce you to the 1 999 Manti Templars softball team. The senior class is well represented by such stalwarts as Kim Dalene, Dani Gottffedson, Sharlie Anderson, and Stacey something else, the great Templar golfers. They are coached by Bob Jensen, (from Jensens Department Store d team fame), and are a which means they are fixed up of boys and girls competing with and against each other. So, if you hear Fore and a Hole in One a lot over the next few weeks, you will know that the scent of golf is in the air. Well, you better think again because the freshman class is loaded! The freshman class boasts stalwarts such as Jill Neeley, Lindsay Peacock, Shae Strickland, Kristi Hintze, Kristalyn Hall, Stacey some big-tim-e threes from way beyond the arc. Unfortunately, for the Eagles, by then it was over and the Templars had many of their reserves in the game to get some valuable experience at a State tournament. When the dust cleared, the Templars had won by a score of 6 iu me tuiibuiauon championship game the next day, the Templars met the North Sevier Wolves for the 3rd time on the year. However, due to a violation of team rules, the Templars were forced to do without the services of Scott Barclay and Kenny Cox for a quarter and Kevin Brown for the entire game. Again ifyou ever have the opportunity to see the softball team in action, I strongly recommend you do so because like the baseball team this bunch of talented athletes lias an opportunity to go places, come state tournament time. Despite the season ending on a sour note, the Templars took great strides for being a state championship contender next year. Now when you think of golf, you can think of Wheeler. The Juniors on the team are: Telasia Beal, Tara Murray, Amy Olsen, Annie Schlueter, Marci Gottfredson, Anique Denton, Meagan Van Orman, Julie Frischknect, and Jayme Sanders.
