Billing it as a ‘‘Cross-Country Christmas,’’ the veteran entertainer presents his yearly special saluting the season Wednesday on NBC,and it represents several milestones. The offering will originate from twc domestic locations within the same hour, Colorado Springs and Nashville, and it also commemo- rates his 50th anniversary of performing for American troops during the holidays, since he’ll be at the U.S. Air Force Academyin the first city. The second site also marks a unique occasion, since it will find Hope on stage at the legendary Grand Ole Opry for the first time, appropriately joined by ccuntrymusic superstar Reba McEntire. Also slated to appear on the program are young ‘“‘Home Alone’’ and “*My Girl’? actor Macaulay Culkin, current Miss America Carolyn S. Sapp and 1992 Tournament of Roses Queen Tannis Ann Turrentine. Even more tradition will be upheld as Hope renders the song standard ‘‘Silver Bells’’ with his wife Dolores, and as he again will introduce the athletes comprising the new Associated Press All-America Football Team. Hope explains his trek to the two cities was arranged as a package deal by the ownerof both the Grand Ole Opry and the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, and the ever- Reba McEntire joins Bob Hope on his 1991 Christmas special Wednesday at 8 p.m. on KUTV. tle touch, because (the late) Redd Foxx played Santa Claus for me on a special back in the 70s, and I’m going to pay tribute to him by using a little piece of that sketch.
