This was reported in a study of causes and effects of inflation in the U.S. prepared by Utah Foundation, the private research organization. According to th foundation report, the following governmental actions have been responsible for a large portion of the inflation now being experienced in the U.S.: Huge government deficits experienced during recent years have been funded by an increase in the public debt or by an increase in the money and credit supply. Increasing public debt tends to push up interest rates thus discouraging private industry from modernizing their plant and equipment. On the other hand, if the deficits are 1. Ferret Owner Says 1 Animals Enough monetized by increasing money and credit supply without a corresponding increase in productive output, higher prices and inflation must follow. 2. Government policies are heavily biased toward economic stimulation in order to keep unemployment low. Government is much more likely to respond to signs of rising unemployment than it is to signs of overfull employment and inflation. Such an expansionist policy, therefore, is highly inflation prone. 3. In its efforts to respond to demands for economic and social reform, government has instituted programs for a massive redistribution of incomes. This has had the effect of expanding the demand for available goods and services, while at the same time reducing funds which could be used to invest in new facilities to improve productivity and increase supply. The inevitable result is higher prices and more inflation. 4. Government policies during recent years increasingly have interferred with the free market forces. The result has been a lessening of competition, an increase in costs and an intensification of inflation. 5. The cost of government regulation in the U.S. currently exceeds $100 billion per year. The increased regulatory role of government in recent years has been an important factor in the rise of inflation during this period. 6. Government has isolated itself from the ravages of inflation. In fact, the Foundation analysts pointed out that inflation acts as giant lottery where in-- ! come and assets are redistributed in an arbitrary and perverse manner. It serves to reward speculation and improvidence by penalizing thrift and pru- dence. The study also notes that inflation has ominous consequences for the future growth of the nation and the mainte-- ' nance of our high standard of living. oo o 773-535- 7. Young Boy Scheduled For Spinal Surgery Its probably none of my business, but I cant help being worried. My sisters son is being scheduled for surgery because of a slipped disc. Is there anything you can say that might encourage my sister to take the boy to a chiropQ. ractor? Many doctors are quick to say back pain is caused by a slipped disc. Disc trouble does occur, but far less frequently than diagnosed. The spinal discs are thin wafers of gristle which act as a cushion and separate each vertebrae from the one above. Most disc trouble comes from an imbalance of the spinal bones (vertebrae which squeezes the disc in such a way as to press upon nearby nerves). One of the main functions of the disc is to act as a shock absorber. Sometimes when we receive a fall or jolt, the shock transmitted to the spinal column is too abilgreat for the spines ity, causing slippage of the bones (vertebrae) from normal relationship with each other. When this happens, if the disc pressure is in the neck area, it could cause pain and numbness in the shoulder, arm and hand. Pressure in the lower back could cause pain in the hips, leg and foot. man who For instance, a middle-age- d works for the City of Salt Lake was scheduled for surgery of the lower back. Pains in the lower back and left leg were so severe he could not put his full weight on the leg, thereby causing a limp. A young man was hurt in a construction accident by an object falling on his head causing headaches, complete loss of feeling in the right hand and low back pains. He also was scheduled for surgery. After examicompleting a very thorough nation and spinal tests, the problem area was located in each of these patients. My only regret is I did not search out chiropractic sooner, is the statement we hear many, many times. When disc trouble does occur, chiropractic care is particularly effective without surgery.
