Show Lakeside Review, Wednesday, Feb. 16, 1983; 5E Patrons, Contestants Sought For Miss Clearfield Pageant CLEARFIELD that rehearsal workshops can start to prepare candidate for the contest. Mrs. Bennion has scheduled several workshops for contestants. Special honors will be accorded to civic and professional leaders in the Clearfield area who are patrons of the Miss Clearfield Pageant. Pat Hampton, Gary Barker, general pageant chairman for the GIVING blood to help others has become a L. Young. Here, Young, life for Rex of way of Layton, donates another pint, bringing his lifetime total to 20 gallons of blood donated. Young says he began giving blood 1940 and now donates a pint every two months. "It feels good to help others," he said while donating Friday at Hill Air Force Base, in soring Kiwanis Club of Clearfield, said the limited roster of patrons for the pending pageant is now being assembled and he invited interested persons to join in aiding to ensure the success of the event. Patrons are special financial contributors who aid in providing funds to finance the scholarships which are awarded annually to each pageant contestant winner. Serving as a pageant patron also entitles each person to a special seat reserved at the pageant to be held on April 9, in the Clearfield High School auditorium. The list of patrons will be published in the Miss Clearfield The third concert pair of the Utah Symphony Chamber Orchestras 1982-8season, conducted by Charles Ketcham at 8 p.m. on Feb. 17 in the Ogden Hilton Promontory Center and Feb. 19 in Symphony Hall, will mark firsts for Utah and American audiences. Soloist Emanuil Sheynkman will bring Salt Lake City and Ogden their first concert performance of classical balalaika and mandolin. Included in the novel program will be the U.S. premiere of a major compos3 ition for mandolin, Igor Rogolovs Vivo Scarlatti. The concerts also mark Mr. Ketch-am- s first conducting appearance with the Utah Symphony Chamber Orchestra. Mozarts Divertimento No. 1 Two Layton Mavra, his own composition Let Us Sit Awhile and Be Concert Waltz by Still, Durand, and Gavrilans Russian Carnival (all his own arrangements). The orchestra will conclude the concert with Mendelssohns Sinfonia No. 9 in C minor. Igor Rogolov is a gifted young Leningrad musician, whose diverse compositions include an opera, many piano sonatas, and an abundance of vocal and chamber works. Pageant souvenir program Emanuil Sheynkman won claim in the USSR as the leading exponent of classical mandolin and as a prominent teacher and performer on the balalaika before his emigration to the United States in 1975. At age 15 he became a laureate at the International Competition for Folk Instrument Performers in Warsaw. A graduate of the Mussorgsky Institute and the Conservatory, he earned credentials as a professor of domra (a Russian folk instrument similar to the mandolin). On the mandolin he performed the Soviet premieres of works by Schoenberg and Stravinsky and made the first Soviet recordings of the Vivaldi concerti for that instrument. His discography includes 15 recordings.
