According to Sampson, most condominiums in the St. George area are sold as second homes to retirees or for recreational purposes. A combination of higher interest rates and a decline in the stock market in the last quarter of 2000 caused a decline in second home sales nationwide. Comparing the fourth quarter statistics to that of the third quarter of 2000, overall sales dropped nearly 1 percent. On average, home prices rose slightly as a little more than 1 percent. 1 Emery County Progress: A. Local News, Local Voice other projects will open for bid in April, May and June. During the summer we hire tem- porary workers, we have 11 full time employees; two in the office, three in the Huntington, Cleveland, Elmo area, three in the Castle Dale, Orangeville area and three in the Emery, Clawson, Perron area. Normally crews will stay in their owm areas but if there is an emergency in any area they will go and help out. They share equipment and it is moved back and forth, Leamaster said. He continued, We have employees that are on call at all times. The water treatment plants have to be visited each day including weekends and holidays, to check and mix chemicals and see that everything is operating properly. Our employees are also called out to do emergency work on water or sewer lines and at the sewer lagoons. Our expenses have risen with the expense to the taxpayers through grant and bond money. When I attend meetings upstate they are always jealous when they see what wre have been able to accomplish. They are especially envious of our secondary w'ater systems and the streets in each of our eight CVSSD increased gas prices, the price of asphalt goes up and pvc pipe prices increase as w'ell, because it is a petroleum product. The increases in electricity will have a big impact on us because of our high electrical usage at the wrnter treatment plants and sewer lagoons. I hope as the time draw's near to do something about our financial situation that voters are aware of all the projects associated with the CVSSD. We have been able to accomplish so much with minimal Computer Desk & Chair as shown cities. We have made great progress in the past and we hope to continue improvements to our county w'ell concluded into the future. Leamaster.
