Larson named new Progress publisher v Bill Brehm Jr., president of Brehm Communications Inc., parent company of the Sun Advocate and the Emery County Progress, announced the appointment Monday of Ken Larson as publisher of the local newspapers. Larson comes to Price from Bullhead City, Ariz., where he served as general manager for the past year and a half at the Mohave Valley Daily News, an 8,000 circulation daily newspaper. ' Larson replaces Kevin Ashby, who served as publisher of the Sun Advocate and Emery County Progress for the last nine years. Ashby has accepted the general manager position at a Pio INSIDE neer Newspaper central printing plant located between Logan and Pocatello, Idaho. I am pleased that Ken has joined the Emery County Progress ," said Brehm in his announcement. His extensive newspaper and community development background will be a tremendous resource to draw on to ensure the continued growth of our products. Larson grew up on ranches in northern Montana and southern Canada. He has a degree in education and was a teacher prior to his newspaper career. The first item of business was an update on the public safety complex. ' . . Some of the concrete footers have been poured and the masons will be on the job on Nov. 12. A plumber and an electrician have also been on the site. IMS masonry from Orem have a big job ahead of them according to Jay Bunker the project manager but they are very good at what they do. Bunker appreciates the great weather they have been having and the project is pro-- . guessing. According to Commissioner Ira Hatch they are ready to let out the bid on the slab. Commissioner Drew Sitterud remarked that the road leading up to the complex has been completed ' Sheriff Lamar Guymon pointed out that the general contractor wiU be many jobs on the project Continued on page 9B ; ! Manus to retire .The Emery County Commissioners met in their regularly scheduled meeting on Nov. 6 at 4 p.m. in the commission chambers. Those present were Commissioners Ira Hatch and Drew Sitterud, County Attorney Dave Blackwell and Sheriff Lamar Guymon. Commissioner Hatch called on Sheriff Guymon to begin the meeting with prayer and he also led those present in the pledge of allegiance. The first item on the agenda was David Cunningham from the Southeastern Utah Health Department with a presentation. He discussed the responsibilities of the health department He said he appreciated the county and their willingness to work with the department. Joseph dazzles audiences by Jerome Burns Last Thursday at GRHS, was the debut of the captivating tale, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. Which, if you didnt know is'a story about a young man whose envious brothers sell him as a slave. He is then forced to make his way in the world, which proves to be a Reuben, the oldest brother. His experienced singing voice mesmerized the audience on more than one occasion. Though the Hatts were excellent, they were not the only expert singers in the cast. The tale was told and the mood was set by the narrators, whose solos very entertaining task. The part of Joseph was played by Ren Hatt, who preformed the role beautifully. With his incredible were matched only by their duets. Although the show is a musical, there was more to do than just listen to the songs. The ingenious set designs took the audience back in time to the land oi Canaan, and even to ancient Egypt. But, thats still not all. A major element ol the play is its intricate dance numbers, which incorporate the acting and the songs. Put it all together and youve got one heck of a play. Those of you who saw the play know that Fm not exaggerating when I say it was an incredible interpretation of a singing voice and highly trained acting skills, he was truly the . icing on the cake. But, he was not the only one who gave a show- stopping performance. The brothers, coincidently, were led by, Royd Hatt who played the role of BRIEFLY classic. GRHS would like to congratulate the actors, actresses, directors, choreographers, and crews on a wonderful job. The brothers plot Josephs demise. Pageant Book to be Compiled Next year, 2001, will be the 25th Anniversary of the Castle Valley Pageant. A book that tells the story of the first 24 years of the Pageant will be compiled. The book will have two sections: 1) A general history; and 2) per- sonal stories of the individuals and families who have performed in, and helped with the production of the Pageant. Please write about your personal involvement with the Pageant for inclusion in this book. It is suggested that submissions be about 500 words, but longer stories will be accepted.
