Government Leads List Of Davis County Job Providers By TOM BUSSELBERG On the other hand, dependence on those two areas has helped cushion Utah against the recession as a whole. Mr, Bailey said. IN A REPORT released by Clearfield Job Service Mana- ger Jack Bailey, he notes d activities have trade-relate- increased to a strong second place, pushing the Clearfield-Sout- h Weber area down from w hen three out of five jobs originated there to under one in every two. These latest statistics indicate 45 of every 100 jobs are located in that area, leaning largely on HAFB and the Freeport Center, compared to nearly 61 of every 100 just 12 years ago. IN 1971 following that same trend, nearly three in four incounty jobs originated in north county, but thats dropped to 63 percent, reflecting defense and other cutbacks, principally at some large Freeport Center concerns. Just under one in five jobs originate in the Bountiful area, Mr. Bailey says, while Layton provides about one in 10, North Salt Lake one in 17 and one in 20 in Farmington and e the area. employment. most areas showed a decrease m employment, Mr. Builev noted. WHILE NEARLY three in five workers are employed in the north end. the lion's share of work sites are in the south end at 57 percent. There are more smaller employers in the south vs. the several large firms in the north, he explained. "Bountiful is highly dominant in the south Davis while the Layton area has about 400 work sites, so even though there are a lot of people w ork-in- g in Clearfield, there are far more businesses-individ- ual worksites," in Bountiful and Layton, Mr. Bailey said. COMPARING the economy now with a decade ago. the job service director said "I think we have a healthier economy like Bountiful or Layton with more work sites. If one segment of your economy is affected, its probably not as drastically as if a Freeport Center or HAFB" massive lavoff. Sunset-Syracus- WHILE BOUNTIFUL falls way below Clearfield in percentage of employees working in the county, it leads the county in the number of trade-relate- d employees, thanks to a well-establishe- d long-standin- business community. Services, manufacturing and construction follow trade in numbers employed with services and construction concentrated most heavily in Bountiful area and manufacturing in Clearfield, Mr. Bailey says. He called the activity in construction and services r I 1 fering would equal the tion's. Right now. we're in impacts from the behind recession. These statistics verify that Davis County is no longer just a place to live but also employs a large portion of its population, Mr. Baile affirmed. Will you ever finish moving in?
