Following a honeymoon trip to the Canyonlands the newlyweds will make their home in Kaysville. SOME CITIZENS have taken the warning seriously, while others just coast along. In the Kaysville South LDS Stake, Kay R. Lindahl, regional public communications director and also a member of the High Council of the South Stake has been pushing this project for members throughout his stake. PRENUPTIAL parties were given by Mrs. Brant Johnson, Mrs. Rick Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Gerrard, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Hunger and Mrs. Darla Harward. The bride graduated from Davis High School and LDS Business College. THE BRIDEGROOM MR. LINDAHL is pleased with the results of the program with so many families participating. He gives pointers on assembling a kit for a person. (1) a container is needed, which can be a back pack, or a duffle bag is ideal for size and organizational requirements. Another choice may be a plastic ice chest, but you can improvise with anything from a garbage container to a suit case, keeping in mind the size, waterproof qualities and sturdiness and should be easy for both children or adults to carry. (2) Food that requires no refrigeration or little or no cooking. Freeze dried or dehydrated foods is an excellent choice. (3) Water and water purification tablets. (4) Shelter may be needed, a space blanket is recommended. These blankets are made of tough material evolved from: insulation used in space exploration. A COMPACT pamphlet of basic helps for a 72 hour emergency kit and sanitation kit has been prepared as a guideline for this project and delivered to all those in the, stake. This has proven most effective for family prepardness. One of several families who have been prepared is the Richard Clay family pic- gra- duated from Davis High School and is attending LDS Business College. He filled an LDS Brazil-Sa- o Paulo North Mission, np radio and batteries, folding shovel, pocket knife, can opener, hatchet, saw, paper and pencil, miscellaneous tools. (9) Hygenic items such as a mirror, toothpaste, and toothbrushes, tissue and other personal toiletry items. (1) Clothing, one complete set for each member (use only clothes the family no longer wears and this helps with expenses (11) Fun items, to make the emergency a little better situation, books, games, etc. (12) Personal supplies. It is important that one has items to help identify themselves, also needed is cash and a credit card to assist in moving families to different locations (13) Sanitation container. MR. AND Mrs. Clay have worked hard Xi Chi Sorority Committees Listed The committees functioning for the Xi Chi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi for the 1982-8- 3 year are as follows: SUNSHINE committee has been headed by Melody Neeley. She has seen that any chapter sister that is sick or has special problems gets assisted and remembered by the chapter. Food was taken in for several days when one member had an operation. Marta Black has been the program chairman. She has made sure each meeting had a nice and interesting program for the members. PHYLLIS Beemis committee assignment has been the raffles held at each meeting. Funds from this provides extra money at convention time. The Secret Sister program is under the direction of Laura Smith. Each member has a secret sister that they do special things for throughout the s year, remembering their birth-day- and anniversaries, Christmas etc. THE YEARBOOKS were .done this year by Dee Shepherd. They are a guide to the sororities functioning 'throughout the year. Each Xi Pfc. M. Valdez Ends Training Marine Pfc. Martin H. Valdez, son of Gaspar L. and Maria H. Valdez of 602 W. THE BASIC needs in the kits consists of food, clothing, water, fuel and first aid items, for a three day period. The parents of course include other important additional items in their kids that are needed for the family. In addition to their well planned kits, each family member has a serviceable sleeping bag that can be picked up in a minutes notice. THE MEMBERSHIP Com- mittee composed of Dee Shepherd and Vickie Shepherd have done their best in assisting new members. We have had three new members this year and four transfers so one can see theyve been really busy. The Yardstick committee is a watchdog of chapter events to see how we stack up when the years finished. Have we really measured up to what Beta Sigma Phi International expects us to do? We hope so and we certainly have tried. MR. CLAY stated, The family has conducted a mock emergency exercise to train their children how to react in case of a real They have also taught them emergency. first aid and CPR techniques. Mrs. Clay said We keep adding to our kits and feel we are about 80 percent prepared and will continue until we feel we are 100 percent ready. It takes time and dedication to assemble all the necessary items, but it has been a rewarding experience for the entire family, all working together. AN IMPORTANT committee is the social committee. It prepares the food, etc. for all the social events. Sharon Boothe has chaired it this year with Mary Maynard and Marta Black, the committeemen. They each have a flair for creating delicious food that fits each occasion. Our parliamentarian, Marta Black has kept the meetings rolling smoothly. A few times she has had to rule on a motion, etc. Its good to have her expertise. AND LAST but not least is the telephone committee, chaired by Vickie Shepherd. She had made sure each member has been informed about chapter events. r 292-550- 1 MR. LLNDAHL is in hopes that all the citizens of both Kaysville and Fruit Heights communities will seriously consider preparing an emergency kit as the Richard Clay family and many others have, in case of a crisis or emergency situation, np Xi Chi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held their annual election meetingTuesday, March 8 at the home of Kathy Robsons in Layton.
