The Layton 28th LDS Bank-hea- d Ward where he serves as bishop held a ward dinner. The two events were brought together by members of the ward into a surprise party that proved to be a great success. TLANS FOR the ward dinner started last fall . Dates w ere tentatively set, changes had to be made. Finally, it was decided that Feb. 8 would be the best evening to hold the dinner. Bishop Bankhead realized it was his birthday but he didn't think anyone else knew it. As assignments for the dinner were given out and as the 1 details took shape. Bishop Bankhead became very concerned, it seemed that the plans were indefinite. No one seemed to be interested in sitting down with the Bishop and explaining just what was going to happen at the dinner. who were visithead's ing seemed reluctant to go home. This was unusual because they usually left early so they wouldnt be driving home in the dak. As the Bishop and his wife approached the church, Mrs. Bankhead suggested they go in the west door instead of the east entrance. AS BISHOP Bankhead enreal- tered the cultural hall, he ized for the first time what was happening. The ward dinner was a giant surprise party honoring his service to the ward members as bishop and honoring his 50th birthday. What seemed to be a casually planned dinner was in reality a carefully organized event. Bishop Bankhead's parents, his wife, children his and grandchildren were all in attendance. By DONETA GATHERUM LAYTON - When the phone rings late at night or early in the morning and a voice says, Mom, the baby is crying. Whats wrong? the event is considered a normal occurance that is repeated constantly everywhere by a daughter who has just brought her first baby home. Its not often a mother and daughter get to compare notes, at least not when both of them are proud mothers of another new arrival! Such is the delight for Maydell Williams, standing, with her daughter Savannah, born Jan. 17, while her oldest daughter, Darlene, holds new arrival Tyler, born Feb. 7. WHEN THE phone rings late at night or in the morning and a voice says, Daughter, my baby is crying. What do you think is wrong? The circumstances are unusual. When a mother and daughter are able to share common experiences in raising babies at the same time, it is a news worthy event.
