(Dick) Adams, long time Layton business man, is retiring from a five year service with the Utah Transit Authority Board of Directors. HE RECALLS that five years ago, Davis County was without the services of the UTA buses and notes that today they run regularly throughout Davis County into Salt Lake City and Ogden. He also states that at tnat time there were only some 70 buses in the Salt Lake area and that was not sufficient to service that city alone. But today they are running 340 buses and that is not nearly enough. AN OPERATOR of big and a gasoline business in Layton, he joined the UTA lines with a desire to be of greater service to the community and the state. trucks Mr. Adams recalls that earlier in the history of Davis County, they were fortunate in having the Bamberger that Railroad traveled between Salt Lake City and Ogden. This was a great means of transporting the traveling public to and from those cities. WITH THE closing of this service, again Davis County was greatly in need of another type of transportation. He sees even a greater need now for even more bus service with the outrageous prices of gasoline still soaring, and such a great number of older people not owning their own automobiles. HE STATES that in the past six months those riding the buses have increased immensely. and it is his expectations that the number will climb even more. Mr. Adams says that with the exception of South Weber and those areas in the extreme western part of the county, he thinks that the other part of Davis County is most fortunate in having this type of service that they may rely on for daily use. As the business increases and more buses are added these areas will also receive the same kind of assistance. THE REPLACEMENT for Mr. Adams will be Robert F.
