LAYTON - This has been a very long season for the Sky View football team, the Bobcats have come close on several occasions but the fact remains that they are still all alone in the caller of the region standings with a record. The problem for the Bobcats however is that this week is going to seem like an eternity as they have to come to town to battle the Layton team. MANY CACHE Valley fans are saying that their team is better than their record shows this year, truth is that the Lancers are probably better than their record indicates I IX). Layton just might be pea kiiig at the right time, if their effort last week against Bountiful is any indication then the Lancers could beat a lot more people before this season is over. Layton played one of their best games in recent years against the Braves, by far their best effort of the year, which now has the Lancer faithfuls thinking of that elusive state crown. THE FACTS dont lie and the facts are that Layton has the best defensive club in the giving up just 56 points, while the Bobcats have one of the worst offenses league, (56 points) the league. in Layton also has one of the best offenses around, scoring 126 points, while the Bobcats have one of the w'orst defenses in the league (130 points). All season the Lancers have been going with the two quarterback system using both senior Tracy Chatwin and junior Mark Vigil in their offense but following the Bountiful game it will be tough for Tracy to get his job back. Vigil ran the option well a week ago and was very effective as a ball carrier himself. When Mark isn't handling the ball the running is left to Todd Stapley, Dave Burke or Art Leota, all of whom enjoy good games. BUT A running back cant L club. IT WILL be an unhill batiie .y: go anywhere without some By DAVE YVIGHAM help from some people up front in the trenches and the big folks for the Lancers are playing well right now. From tackle to tackle the Lancer coaches were pleased with their players in the win over the Braves. Defensively the main guns have turned out to be Burke at linebacker and Kirk Gallegos at safety. If Gallegos isnt back in the secondary picking off passers hes usually found in the oppositions backfield sacking I Ww ' v ' mmmm - f! for the Wildcats but with nothing to lose, they might be primed for the upset. Also the consider Grizzlies wrapped up the region title last week with their win over the Davis club in kavsville. The Wildcat defense has been good all year. They have onlv given up an average of lb points a game but their ot fense hasnt been able to score much at all, averaging - rS quarterbacks. the year and the season Sky View has lost two close ballgames in a row now and realize that this is their last outing of the year so incentive really isnt a factor from their standpoint. Layton needs the win to mathematically clinch the region title, logically they have it already. TO BE honest this game should turn into a laughter for the Lancers, a chance for some of those second-uni- t people to get some action. Sure in high school sports anything could hard-workin- happen, but only someone taking funny pills would pick the Bobcats to win this one. A few years ago a team from West High started playing their best ball right before the state tournament, and they continued that play right to the title. Could history repeat with the Lancers pulling off the same trick. This game might be an n i V"2J vt i if j r y r; rftvA I It " ! .. :Tl isiA UL S' IS i.4' v 1 i ( L & in some action.
