Then comes wrestling, basketball or swimming. In the spring there's track, baseball, tennis or soccer. Then comes the tough part, the summer when everyone and everything is offered. So you can see the summer is pretty well full of activities for the high school athletes. Sure the majority of the programs are open to all people, but not the clinics or baseball. THAT means that the athlete gets to go to work all day then comes home and has to decide on about three or four activities he can participate in. Some of those decisions would be tough. If football is coming up and weight training is in Tfect, about that college basketball clinic the same week. In amateur sports more and more schools are inaugurating soccer programs; at some, believe it or not, so many try out for soccer, theres a scarcity of football candidates. THIS CHANGE in the past fifteen years reflects the disenchantment of many with the physical violence and brutality of American football, responsible for so many serious and permanent injuries each year and a few deaths. U.S. football, of course, is tremendously exciting, and is in no danger of eclipse. But it is for a distinct minority.
