In order to qualify for the grant, the county must show a need. According to Sheriff Lawrences figures the county can justify an expense of $482,000 in setting up the program. tant aspect or delivering emergency medical care. They recommended that a communication base be set up to operate 24 hours a day. This network would have a common channel so that communication with fire and law enforcement officers is also available. county-wid- e SHERIFF Lawrence pointed out that, at the present time, the Davis County Sheriffs Office has a four channel communications system that is tied to Clearfield, Layton and Bountiful Police Departments. This system could dispatch paramedics to Lakeview and Davis North hospitals. The first draft of the paramedics proposal sug- gests a professional dispatch center with a 911 system. This system would cost a quarter of a million dollars and has been projected for implementation within five years. UNTIL this emergency number is available county wide, 295, 290 and 292 numbers can reach the 911 number in Salt Lake County. Ambulance and paramedic calls could then be dispatched out of the sheriffs office. Dr. Freeman said the two base hospitals Lakeview and Davis North Medical Center - will obtain telemetry equipment to provide emergency room support for the paramedic service. LARRY Gregory, EMS Council member, said the fire departments in the county - -- have no way of communicat- ing with the police depart- ments.
