On September 23, 1972, he married Virginia Smith in Kaysville. He graduated from Davis High School in 1971 and was a member of the LDS Clinton Fifth Ward. He was a member of the Air Force Reserve Unit, Hill Air Force Base. This year, as a senior at Layton High, he lettered in football. Jay was very proud of this accomplishment. For a year and a half, he was first assistant to the Bishop from his quorum. In this capacity, Jay assisted in planning many ward youth programs. Active in scouting, Jay earned many merit badges and had achieved the rank of life scout. He was especially proud of one merit badge he received for swimming a mile HE ENJOYED camping, hunting and fishing. At the time of his death, Jay was working as the Layton Stake Youth specialist for He was music. involved , This calling was very important to him.
