Mrs. Mary Timothy thanked all who helped assemble and install the two flag poles. She also spoke on the history of the Flag and appreciation for freedom. THIS LAND Is Your Land song was sung by the Lynn Nance family accompanied by their daughter Kim on the guitar. Myron Linford from the Kaysville East LDS Stake was the guest speaker. He urged other citizens throughout this community to make a similar effort to leave a memento for posterity commemorating the Bicentennial year. HE SAID, Pres. Lawrence E. Welling, stake president has urged all of us to beautify our homes, garden areas and our surroundings, not only for our stake, but throughout our community and this is one of the better ways to support his program. There are so many countries in the world today where people only hope, and prayer is to get out, longing for a free land in which they can grow, develop and be happy, he said. THE EYES of billions look hopefully to America as a land of the free and an opportunity for the common man. Yet we have many among us, in sections of America, who interpret our rights, and are tiying to destroy our America. We owe it to our children to continue to demonstrate the achievements of true government of the people, by the people and for the people, he continued. The solid rock on which our forefathers built is the .divine precept of the equality of man. On that rock our is universal education, freedom of speech, foundation of worship and tolerance. Mr. Timothy was a world war I veteran. MRS. DAVID BAIR Selected Model UN Speaker senior, David Bair, LHS was recently chosen to give one of the keynote policy speeches at the Model United Nations Conference to be held at the U of U, May 6, 7, & 8. DAVID WAS selected as one of three Utah students to present such an address. The Model U.N. Conference will include over 800 delegates from Utah High Schools. HE IS the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bair, 740 Hill HERRICK, assis- tant basketball coach at USU, was addressing the Region 2 basketball stars. Eleven of the top players in 0 region had been selected to the team by the coaches of the region teams. ALSO Junior PRESENT were the Varsity and Sophomore coaches from each of the schools, and the parents of the players. Coach Herrick, the guest speaker, stressed to the group that they should never be satisfied with their life. That they should strive to improve themselves in anyway possible. HE WENT on to say that the high school associations that he remembers most are with his team mates. He told the players to hold on to the memories of the season, and to cherish them always. The banquet was a first for an team. The coaches of the region felt that they wanted to show the players who excelled that they appreciated the efforts of the past season. THE COACHES themselves went out into their various communities and solicited sponsors for the banquet. Each coach was very thankful for the willingness of the sponsors. Those participating in the event were Farmers State Bank of Bountiful, Toms Super Save Market and Wasatch Sporting Goods both of Layton. CLEARFIELD Savings and Loan, Steves Boat Shop and Clearfield State Bank all from Clearfield. From Ogden Coleman Knitting Mills Inc. Ogden Board of Realtors and Dixon Trophys. Toveys, Wolfes and Stevens and Brown all sporting goods stores in Salt Lake also donated to the cause. EACH PLAYER received a plaque, a photograph of the team and a certificate from the Davis County Clipper and Davis New Journal. The banquet, which the coaches hope to make an annual event was held at the Red Flame Supper Club in Bountiful.dw Blvd., Layton. This another CATHY FRAZIER only represents of many honors received by David this year as a member of Layton High Schools championship debate team. DAVID WON the Happy Birthday lovely old home and are busily engaged in activities in school as well as the church. Gary received his Bachelors and Masters degrees at BYU and went erst to obtain his Doctorate at the University of Iowa at Iowa City in 1968. first place in Bicentennial Youth Debate extemporaneous speaking contest and was awarded a $25. savings bond and a specially minted gold medal. HE ALSO was awarded outstanding speaker at the Golden Spike Legislative and Forum Contest represented our region in the Utah State Student Congress which was held last month. SINCE THEN he has been Associate Professor at the University of Mass., where Diana received her Masters in Garys field. DAVIDS EFFORTS in debate have also been instrumental in achieving team awards at the Utah Bar As- sociation tournament, The first Saturday evening of each month the Kaysville American Legion Post No. 82 serves a delicious hot dinner to the public. ON SATURDAY May 1st they are featuring a hot steak dinner with all the trimmings, and they will begin serving at 7:30 p.m. The proceeds from this E-1- 7, : one-year-ol- Graduated From Training Tournament. Lonnie Adams Wasatch Debate Tournament and the Golden Spike Speech Legion CLINTON Tl DR. GARY STEWART thr. Gary L. Stewart, son of G.,;LaVirl and Vera M. Stewart, has recently received the position of Director of the Drama and Speech Department at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. HE WAS advanced to full professor and will direct the affairs of the department each winter and also the Summer Theater. He is making his home in Terre Haute with his wife Diana and their two little girls, Beth Ann and Emily. They have purchased a Navy Hospitalman Recruit Lonnie E. Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Von E. Adams of 303 Aircraft Ave., and husband of the former Lei Nani Vidinhar of 145 Green St., all of Layton Utah, was graduated from recruit training at the Naval Training Center, Orlando, Fla. inCLASSES INCLUDE struction in seamanship, military regulations, close order drill, first aid fire-fightin- and Navy history. Mr. Adams, a 1973 graduate of Layton High School, joined the Navy in January 1976.
