Going by plane from here to San Juan, Puerto Rico, they boarded the luxurious S.S. Amerikanis for a visit to the islands of Curacao, Caracas, the Capitol of Venezuela, and the islands Patty Buchmiller, who is attending Ricks College, in Ida., spent last Rexburg, weekend at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stoddard, in West Point, Utah. BENNETT . was Sylvia Fielding honored with a family birthday social held at the home of her grandson and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Hoskins of Farmington, on Monday evening. In attendance were some 30 family members, from around the area. Donald Thorpe spent a few days this past week in the South Davis Community Hospital at Bountiful, receiving treatment. Mrs. Thorpe is a member of the faculty at the Syracuse Elementary School. where he had received treatment for a broken jaw, and face lacerations, that he suffered in an automobile accident a week and a half ago. Scott Ewing, 17 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Hal M. Ewing who was also in the same accident has been in intensive care since the accident. The Ewing youth was the driver of the pickup truck that collided with another truck that was driven by Steve Hammon, 18 years of age, all from Syracuse. Steve is the son of Mr. and Mrs. of the Stoddards, Kimberly Stoddard also spent some time with them. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Han- daughter of Grenada, Guadaloupe, St. Thomas, and then back to San Juan for a return flight back. They accompanied a group from Idaho Falls, Ida., and Rexburg, Ida. on the air-se- a cruise. Kenyon Barber, 16 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Blair Barber, was able to return sen spent three days this week in Idaho Falls, and Driggs, Ida. with relatives. They made the trip to attend the funeral services of their uncle, Glen Peterson, of Driggs. Mr. and Mrs. Zene W. Ben- nett are back home after es some abrasions, but didn't require hospitalization. Mrs. Sylvia Fielding visited a few days last week at the home of her and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Wheeler of Brigham and Mrs. Charles Brotherson, of Laytoa President and Mrs. J. Duffy Palmer are back home following a trip to Brazil where they met their son. Elder Ferrell Josie Palmer left Sunday for Ml Pleasant where she will be giving assistance at the home of her son and daughter-in-law- , Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Palmer and their little family. A new addition arrived to them at a Mt. Pleasant Hospital, with the birth of a new little daughter. This is the Palmers fifth child. Nathan, Heidi, Matthew and Charity, are her new brothers and sisters. The Palmers were formerly from Syracuse. Other grandparents in addition to President and Mrs. J. Duffy Palmer of Syracuse, are Mr. there. son-in-la- w Kenneth Hammon. Most seriously injured was Scott Ewing. He received a compound fracture of the left hip, two broken legs, a badly injured arm, and surgery that required the removal of his spleen. Excitement and anticipa- - tion filled the Mountain Road LDS Ward Cultural Hall on Friday evening when 31 cub scouts gathered for their an-- : nual Pinewood Derby. ' THIS IS one of their special events of the year. Each boy had to carve a racing car : from a block of pine wood and : assemble all parts of the car : ready to enter the racing : competition. 7 WEBELOS leader, Ned Giles, conducted the race, as-- : sisted by den mothers, scout : leaders and members of the bishopric. A special track was set up in the hall where all boys and : . ' 'their parents and families - : were on hand for the exhibition. EACH cub scout had the opportunity of entering the race and as the contestants were eliminated, the final racers stirred up more fas- cinatkm and excitement. I : : ' : : : THE GRAND prize winner was Brad Shepherd with his super racer. He is the son of Shirl and Dona Shepherd of 1209 East 986 South, Fruit : :: - Heights. Second place was S' won by Glen Hanson, son of ? Edward and Arlene Hanson of 587 Cherry Lane, Fruit Heights. Twelve prizes were awards s: : ed to the top winners for speed, best style car and the car most like a boys. s 't s THE each WINNERS ; received a unique trophy : which was an original spike mounted on a wooden trophy base.
