Of would be fun to be caught in some intrigue in Shanghai 1 knew provided, of course, I still had my visa with me and back to home. soon like be would that I Id go shopping in Hong Kong or even Buenes Aires and bring back fabulous gifts from another clime. Dining in some Farisien restaurant and stopping at the Moulin Rouge for a nightcap sounds wonderful to me. And I could be persuaded to enjoy the view from a balcony window in Naples which looks out toward Capri. Yet, here, as in 1!KVS, I sit with not one whit more Christmas pieparation completed than on December 17 last year. Shopping in Hong Kong or Buenes Aires indeed. 4 have not yet exhausted the supply of merchandise in Kaysville or Layton or Clearfield! And talk about intrigue in Shanghai there is quite a hit right in the confines of my own house as I hear the whisperings, as I try not to notice how good everyone is smetimes. I may as well reconcile myself to the fact that, in 1959 at least, Ill not dine glamorously in Paris but I know where I can buy a delicious hamburger nut a mile from home. And if I saw the ballet in Moscow, I may want to say something unflattering about Government subsidies and Id better stay in Davis County if I want to talk against the ruling Government! I guess Ill stay in Davis County and appreciate the smiling cheerfulness that reigns once a year at least. I guess I'll stay in Davis County and feel warm and secure in my snug house. I guess Ill stay in Davis County and continue my campaign against everybody who spells Christmas with an X. Ill make some plum pudding and, this year, Ill try pouring brandy over the top and lighting one to be carried to the table, much to the delight of the children (and me!). Ill enjoy he steamy fragrance of Christmas wending its way Ill hope it snows that no one has upset stomachs It It seems only last week that we swept the last of last ears Christmas tree needles from where they had been furtively hiding our vacuum and now its the season to be Jolly again and another year is on the wane. But, lest our newest states feel slighted at this oversight, let me hasten to add ha Ive never been o Vermont or even to Texasl I can stand not going to Alaska, especially in December, but I sort of resent not being in Hawaii at least part of the time. Years end makes one fel life is passing by and there are so many things to do, places to go. I long to walk through a fog in jolly old London yet be not afraid because Scotland Yard is always on the job. Perhaps a trip to Pakistan wuld do something for my morale and make me appreciate Davis County all the more.
